Default Blu-Ray

Apparently Slysoft has found a way around Blu-Ray's supposed impenetrable encryption technology. This was suppose to be nearly impossible to circumvent but yet again it's been done early in the process. I don't see the point in spending all the money for encryption thats going to be defeated before it even becomes a standard device. This reminds me of the idea that we could build a defense against nuclear weapons when it's easy to overcome whatever the defense is. Anyway here's the story.

Blu-ray’s DRM crown jewel tarnished with crack of BD+

It was only a matter of time, i mean the PS3 games themselves aren't protected at all, if you had a BluRay burner, you can copy PS3 games and run them directly on your PS3. Then again, 500 for the burner, 25 per disk...you'd need to burn like 80 games to offset the expense.

Meh, any kind of encryption can and will be broken. I remember Microsoft touting their super lockdown on cracking Vista, how long did it take to break it? Like, two months if I remember right. The only point in Blu-Ray I see right now is the capacity, but it's much more economic to just get an external harddrive. Maybe when it or HD-DVD becomes mainstream, for now my 20" CRT and PS2 are good enough for me.

Yeah, unless you have a giant HDTV and watch a lot of movies, it just isn't worth getting wrapped up in the HD format wars right now. I'm going to hold off as long as possible (although that isn't hard with the outrageous prices on HD stuff) before I plunge on a player or even a TV. I think we'll see dual format players before we see a format winner.

I am waiting for HD tvs to drop in price before jumping onto that bandwagon... like a 32" for under $500 would be the time I buy

Thanks HL and Corsair!
