| Level 2 College Student | I gotta sell my grandpa's van. Got <60k miles on it and I wanna know how I sell it on the internets? My dad said its worth about ~$5,000 give or take. It's my job to take pictures, type stats, type info, and do everything to sell it on the internets. So what do you guys use or know of to sell on the internet? |

| I'm not too confident in the intarweb and cars, the two just dont seem to work well together. My first problem is that the user cant actually see the car in person, ya know get a real feel for the car. I mean sure, if you find someone who is really interested you can answer most of their questions and the like, but there is just something about actually touching a car. My first thought was to ask why not just sell it where you live? Cause for all you know the person who may buy it lives 100s to 1000s of miles away, and transporting issues may arise. So possibly try putting an add in the newspaper or something, along with an add on ebay or another car selling place, so that you can have some other areas covered. I just know when I look around on the net, mostly Im looking for how close the seller lives, so that if i want to take a drive and kick some tires, i can do so reasonably. I also tend to look through those Autotrader booklet thingies, ya know the free paper booklets you can get from gas stations or convenience stores. | Functional Alcoholic | The internet is a great way to get your car some face time. I would advice against it being the only place you advertise. AutoTrader.com is a great place to advertise I browse through there just to see what's in there. If you do put the Van on Ebay, be smart about it. Require pickup with in a certain amount of days, don't put a crazy low starting price. Also be prepared for it not to sell on Ebay. Putting ads in newspapers, AutoTrader magazine, and nickle ads is good too. If the vehicle doesn't need to be driven park it somewhere where it will get high visabilty. Some places have whats known as Lemon Lots, where you pay a weekly fee to park your vehicle in a lot where people can come by and look at your car. Don't just use the internet to sell. |

| Level 2 College Student | I doubt I'll use eBay at all, mostly due to the fact that if I put it up for starting bid @ $5000, it will cost me about 10-20 bucks.... and its not worth it, I Can get a good Classifieds ad for that $. Also, I can put a for sale sign on it's window and park it in front of my neighborhood, or out front the car's window. There is a major renovation going on at my neighbor's house right now, maybe one of the construction workers (there are at least 10 of em) want a new van... =) I will also get myself set up with AutoTrader.com. The "Enhanced" Version looks very good. How does AutoTrader.com work? is it an auction, where highest bidder gets it, or is it an ad, where the person will contact you if they are interested? |

| What year is the van? 1st thing to do is go to NADA Guides, and Kelly Blue Book to look up the various values. Edmunds also has a web site, not sure what you're able to do on it. Here in NJ selling a used car is the pits. After Libra got back from CA, we decided to sell the 1993 Ford Taurus he took out there. Asking price was $1,500 or $1,000 - was going for almost $3,000 - no one would touch it. Ended up selling it to my neighbor, they sold it last year for what I sold it to them for. Another Taurus, newer smaller model has been for sale across the street for over a year. My neighbor is selling his 1994 Harley, he listed it in the local bike mag, and the site I linked to. So far he's had 1 person interested. It's been up for sale since before I had surgery. | We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | Sell it in the paper, put a sign on it (after you clean it up)......I wouldn't sell anything on the net that you don't have to. I was looking at E-Bay to try and sell that computer I have, and was really bummed to see all the scumbags selling 8GHz systems, or super fast Pentium D systems.
