Default Army

well, i'm trying my luck in joining the military and i always enjoy playing soldier back in my home country, i had exp with m4 rifle striping and .45 caliber custom pistol.

my recruiter just told me that i passed the ASVAB with 60points, i dont even know what is that, he said it dont matter what matter he said that i qualify. He said i'll be entering as E3 enlist man, i dont even know what is that? but he said everything i wanted that i've ask him will be grated to me faster in the service than in civilian world, this include my citizenship.

i know people here are from Military, so shed some light on what happens on PhysicalExam, Basic Training, and AIT? i dont even remember what AIT i'm going into

wish me all the luck that i come back alive from Basic Training...

my brother proven that a little to hard, he graduate from HS and went straight to a recruiter and he did everything right but failed the ASVAB and the Physical. and ofcourse its all up to the person joining, if this is the right path for them i'm sure they will enjoy the experience...

sure i will tell my exp over there but i cant leave until my current work contract finish, i dont want to be sued $10K for breaking the contract, so my recruiter is setting everything up for me to join and set the date of deployment to Basic Training on April...

Halut,

I'm very proud of you for taking a stand and serving your new, adopted country. Indeed, you will be made a citizen a lot quicker and easier while on active duty. The time frame escapes me atm, but I'm pretty sure you are required to do it within your first 8 years of service. I'll get some clarification on it tomorrow if I can. Right now, I don't have any naturalized Soldiers working for me.

Knowing the MOS you're coming in as is important. Did you sign some paperwork that will have that information on there? If I'm not mistaken, you're in the nursing field aren't you? What's your educational back ground?

Basic will be a very rewarding experience once you're done with it. During basic, it will be both physically and mentally challenging. More physical than anything though. You would do well to start doing push-ups, sit-ups and running at least 3 miles in under 40 minutes. How old are you?

How your AIT experience goes depends largely on what MOS you've chosen. Are you going in as a medic? If so, that's a 68W I believe. 68J is medical supply specialist. Hell, the list of medical MOS's is quite long.

Let us know what your MOS is going to be. I can give you linkage to get your informed of what you'll be doing in the Army.

Thank you for choosing to serve! It will be a life changing event.

Thank you quake,

well, its not that i want war, but the ideals and service to be given to community made me join, aside from the way my grandfather influenced me before he passed away a couple years back. He was a Navy Captain during WWII.

well my recruiter said if AIT we're talking most probable that i may be posted on Texas, but Basic i dont know yet, i cant actually go to far for Basic Training from NY because my wife Pharmacy Licensure is in either NY or Chicago...

i havent signed anything yet except the paper of ASVAB nothing more... and Yes i'm a LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse, but the recruiter had taken consideration my BS-Nursing Degree which is being evaluated as we speak. well i know nothing so far, but my whole family backed me up for my decision, which is i'm happy for, i only wish that my Grandfather was still alive right now, i know he will be proud...

but first thing first i hope i survive the physical and mental challenge...

Here are the basics to starting off well in the Military.

1st ... Regardless of which branch you choose; the better your entry scores ... the better deal you can negotiate with that branch for the promises of money and school and better training.

Yes ... it all comes down to the what deals you can qualify for and what deals you can cut with whatever branch you decide to join.

Each branch has differing incentives and motivations for their recruiters to get themselves {bonuses] and offerings they can make for the new recruit.

The best way to approach it is to have a plan. Study the Barons "Study for the ASVAB" research some of the secrets to getting super high scores ... Get physically fit so that you stand out as top flight material.

Then find out what deals they have.

Don't take any "one" recruiters word for it ... research.

Often you can study ... learn a few test secrets [like 10 seconds before finish ... fill in all the test answers that you haven't done and you will get a higher score]

Get that test score high ... and negotiate for enlistment bonuses, cash bonuses, school bonuses ... military school promises ... like C school promises etc.

Remember ... the promises benefit you and not the recruiter ... they get a bonus for your signing up ... not for the additional effort to make you a great deal and offer you the other spiffs that you can get if you work at it.

OK ... so is it worth the extra effort ... Duhhh ... in the short run ... it is several thousands of dollars and perhaps 10's of thousands of education and training ... in the long run it could be hundreds of thousands over your lifetime if you cut the best deal and get the best schools and jobs and make every effort to get promoted as fast as possible.

BTW: Th Navy is perhaps the easiest boot-camp ... has one of the safest environments ... except flight decks and deckhand stuff ... and they have excellent schools.

If you do well ... you could have btw 6-12 weeks of Boot camp ... 3-5 weeks of A school ... and then 5 to 24 weeks of C school ... Yup ... paid school that has real value in the Civilian world.

If done right and you get a Long C school ... you could be an E5 by the end of school and supervising the same people who joined before you or at the same time as you.

Making 40% more money than they do.

If you are ... or get married early ... simply double your income as an estimate.

Oh ... if you have a 4 year degree or close to it ... make plans to become an officer either now or during [Better to go OCS instead of enlisted]... more money ... better deals ... could eventually end up getting you paid med school.
[Then if you become a Doctor ... we are talking several millions of dollars different income over your lifetime]

first i'm finished with ASVAB, and theys aid i had high as 60points, i dont know what that means.

i'm married and it had benefits too
and yes i have Bachelor's Degree on Nursing, which is being evaluated now by Army, for now my recruiter said that i'm certain for High Educ Bonus which is $5K, still waiting for additional offers, then he said also i'll be going for 9weeks bootcamp, and i'll get a list of possible jobs as soon as i finish the Physical exam...
i'm just concerned about that for now, the PE, he said i'm ok with 177lbs for 5'8" male i'm within the margin of Height/Weight Ratio...
