Default Air Force jams garage doors

http://hardware.slashdot.org/article...16243&from=rss

Hey boss I can't make it in today the air force shut me down. I know there's a pull cord on automatic garage doors.

Nice. I've been trying to hack my garage door opener to do the same thing for quite some time now.

What frequency does a garage door opener use? Most Gov frequencies range 225-450 MHz.

we had this problem a few years ago here as well (outside Eglin AFB, FL).... thousands of garage doors wouldn't open anymore, permanent damage. Some of them brand new, some of them 20 years old... I think the government handed out some checks to those who were adamant about getting their money... whats $100 between friends anyways?
Some of the local stories included doors opening by themselves and then stopped working, some that opened and closed all by themselves a few times then stopped working, some would never work at all. Some just needed to be reprogrammed to work with the remote.

Realistically, the Government has the right to any frequency it wants to use. They just tend to stay away from 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz and other well known house/cell phone frequencies. They're always doing all kinds of weird testing here. Sitting at work, I hear probably 5-10 bombs per day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. The EOD school a few miles down the road from my work so at my previous job with Ace Hardware, they would order $10,000 worth of iron, steel and PVC fittings/pipe to make all kinds of devices that end up getting blown up. Really interesting hearing some of the stories those EOD guy tell.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

For the radio geeks out there, here's the FCC's allocation table for radio freq.
