Default 7 Lies You'll Hear From Salesmen

Quote:
Future Shop is a Canadian consumer electronics retail chain. Charlie used to work there, and has now passed along the 7 most common lies he heard salesmen use on unsuspecting customers. Whether you have a Future Shop in your area or not, you'll find these lies familiar. (We ran into a lot of them back when The Wiz was still in NYC, in fact.)

Yep. Bought 1 computer there. Never again. I avoid them like the pest not only because the salesman are pressured to sell more and more but also because their service is terrible.

There are plenty of places like this... I worked for one for 9 months (no commission) and as soon as the boss heard I was telling people the truth he fired me (well thats the ONLY reason I know of, otherwise my service was exemplary)... no biggie, worked out for the better anyways.

Reminds me of going in to Circuit City to get some speaker wire. The guy tried to sell me this at $35 for a fifty foot roll. Buy the NexxTech 16-Gauge Speaker Wire Kit - 50' and other Audio cables & connectors at circuitcity.com

When I expressed my shock over their charging 70 cents a foot for wire, the salesman said, "This is the highest grade of copper there is and the connectors are gold plated." I just looked at him, laughing, and replied, "You actually said that with a straight face; man, you are really good!"

Common sense applies. If anyone gets caught up in this, they deserve to lose their hard-earned money. No sympathy from me.

The problem with that is that it falls under the uneducated category. If someone end up buying a car from someone else that runs perfectly and had decent reliability reviews, there is still the chance that there is an underlying problem with these cars that only owners of them know of. The buyer is uneducated as to these problems and whether spending the extra money is worth it or not.
These salesmen use this lack of knowledge to make the extra money when most times it is unneeded or completely wrong.

This is why I try to pass this info along to people when I see the chance. If I am in CC or BB or another store and hear something like this wrong info being stated, I always nicely say "excuse me, nothing against the sales people but when it comes to this type of item, there is no need to spend the extra money when the TV (or computer or whatever) will probably die before you ever have problems with this."
