HAHA, that's a great idea! I'd still be concerned with the horizontal shake, but that's an extremely easy way to at least reduce it. Nice find!

thats what I like about my camera, if the flash is on it has a fast shutter speed so that it catches almost anything moving at high speeds

True. If you can get away with a good ambient light it always look better in my opinion. Hence why photographers will reflect the flash instead of pointing it at their target, so the light isn't a spot but ambient. :)

thats pretty much what I do with mine... plus if it is outside the sunlight gives more light than the flash does but still allows for the fast shutter speed... and inside I can just put my finger in front of it if I need to stop the flash
