Default Where to Get A Really Old Computer?

Where would one get a really old computer? I'm talking about computers from before the gigahertz wars. My use for it? A general family web browsing computer. If possible, it would be 400MHz~1GHz CPU, ~256 RAM, ~10GB HDD, any CD-ROM drive (to install Feisty Fawn), and quiet. That's a big concern. Quiet. Any hints, drop me a message at my email address: [my HardwareLogic username]@gmail.com

eBay?

Check out Dell Auction | Computer Auctions | Refurbished Computers. They've got old school Dells for cheapish prices.

I need something cheaper. I might get an eMachines. Or should I get a laptop?... Laptops have lower power draw, are smaller, are portable, can run on batteries....

Agreed, take a look through the parts list and see if there is anything that tickles your fancy to get you started, then post what you want and what you still need.

Really? I think $50-$150 would be cheap for a computer.

I picked up an old KES PIII box at my local pc shop for $35. Got Mandriva 2007 on it right now. You might look into that avenue too.

Yard/Garage sales. You would be surprised what you find. It's about that time of year too. My wife and I used to get up early on Sat mornings and check the newspaper for Garage Sales, then drive around town. I have picked up several computers that way. As mentioned Ebay, I wouldn't recommended buying a whole computer off there though. I would see if you can find one at a yard sale then buy some upgrade parts for it off Ebay. Another place to look is swap meets. Most places I have been have swap meets on Sat mornings. Usually at the local Fair Grounds, sometimes they are just downtown. Ask around, or look in the local paper for Swap Meet times and locations.
