| Way back when I was around 15, my dad got me my very first computer, a Tandy 1000 EX. He was at Radio Shack, smoking outside while waiting on the store to open, and a guy who had another computer store was there trying to get him to buy one of his that was cheaper and had a hard drive. Well, my dad, being the world's authority on common sense, asked him why in the world would he want a computer with a hard drive. Floppy drives must be better because they wouldn't break as easily as a hard drive. So, he came home with the Tandy, desk, and printer in tow. Boy was I happy. It was faster and far more advanced than any thing out there. An Intel 8 bit 8088 7.16 MHz with 256K memory, 16 color video and color monitor, a dot matrix printer, and 3-voice sound, wow. And believe it or not, I still have it, except for the printer that my dad sold out from under me with all the original 5.25 floppies, including MS DOS 2.11, Tandy Deskmate v01.01.00, and The Black Cauldron game. Just for kicks, I decided to bring it out the other day, power it on, play the game, and revisit the Deskmate. It all still works. Now, how many folks can say that about computers that are made today? Everything still working without any problems, and what about 20 years from now? DISCLAIMER; I was probably drunk when I wrote this! ![]() Where do I start? G6 350, Dell Dimension 8100, HP ZD7000, HP A630N, or the wallyworld Compaq? |

| Colonel Calamity | The first one I remember at my house was a 386... but I do remember playing with the Apple II and Tandy at an Uncle's house all the time... I was hooked on the original SimCity back in those days... ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| I am pretty sure that our first computer was an Apple II GS. That computer was a lot of fun. My dad bought it for us kids because we needed help in math as our grades were slipping in school. So we would play MathBlaster at all hours of the day, and our grades improved within a matter of a few weeks. Of course there were other programs that we spent a lot of time on. Tass Times, Wings of Fury, Thexder and Silpheed were great games as well. Then my dad sold the Apple and bought an IBM 486DX2. That was pretty sweet, never really got to use it much though. Once I left home for the service, I ended up getting a top of the line, Pentium III 450Mhz machine. I used to play Delta Force 2 online non-stop with a dial up connection of about 30Kbps. That was about over ten years ago if I remember correctly. |

| Modder-ator | Great story Oldfatslob! ![]() I can't remember what our first computer was, but it was Windows 3.1 and we got one of those cheap-o game CD's with 35 games on it and my brother and I played those frickin' rediculous games ALL THE TIME. That computer was amazing, MS Paint was about as fun as those games too (which was really fun)! The first computer I ever had for myself was a Dell Laptop with a 900 MHz PIII, 256MB RAM, 16MB ATI Mobility M4 graphics, 15" screen, 10GB HDD and the CD burner upgrade. |
