| Hey all, I need some advice. I'm thinking about upgrading my CPU. But I only have $250 to spend. I know $250 isn't a lot but thats because I went ahead and bought a new PSU. I checked on gigabyte's website and my current MB only supports up to the Athlon x2 6400 BE and thats after I flash to the latest bios. So I could buy the...Or another Idea is to buy a new MB and put a intel E2160 and overclock.
I'll also need to buy a CPU cooler and paste which is factored into the $250. C2D E8400 3.0GHz Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev.2 Samsung 20x Burner Samsung 500GB Seagate 160GB ASUS HD 3870 512mb 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 mhz PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610w Samsung 226BW 22" | ||||||||||||||

| I really don't think the E2160 is much of an upgrade. Why not wait until you've saved another $50 or so and upgrade to a Conroe or a Wolfdale? I'm afraid that if you spend money on the Allendale now, you'll want to upgrade it in a couple months. Upgrade to a 45nm CPU later when the prices drop a little and you'll be good to go! That motherboard is a great OC board btw ![]() | |||||||||||||||

| I would say the Intel route is your best bet. You will not see an immediate speed increase but when money comes available down the line, you can get a mid-level Penryn which you will see a speed increase there. Also remember that many of those Intel 2XXX chips are great OC's so you could a get a nice little boost to hold you over until you do get a 45nm chip. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
