Default System Config.

I need someone with the same OS to take a look at the System Configuration to see if there are differences....or that can tell me if certain items that are stopped, should be running. If that makes sense? Could stopped programs cause PnP USB products to not run properly?

Are things like USB sticks not being detected, or they aren't autorunning/autoplaying?

The only thing I can think of right now is to hit start, in the search bar, type in services.msc, once that leads, look for UPnP Device host , and see if it is running.

PnP devises are fine as far as being detected goes. But in syst.config....if you click on services...there are quite a few services that are stopped from running.Should they all be enabled? Will it hurt anything to enable them all ? I also have over 2600 critical errors logged....?

alot of services will be disabled, and thats fine.

I'm not sure on the errors part! Doesn't sound to good! I'm not all that experienced with vista.

Definitely do not go willy nilly through there enabling all those processes. Some won't apply to your hardware, some aren't applicable to a home desktop environment, so on and so forth. If you aren't having issues, don't muck about with that stuff. Every single one you turn on requires more system resources at startup. Most of us spend a lot of time figuring out which ones we can turn off rather than what to turn on!

Vista logs a buttload of errors. You need to figure out if they are software or hardware related. Software related ones can be very common in Vista from what I've seen so far. Most are little stupid things that a program does every day, but Vista logs as an error because it thinks the program should do something differently. Like Irfanview. It used to generate 5 errors every time I started it up. But I was having zero issues with it. Vista though, said I was having issues. Soon enough though, Irfanview came out with a newer version and it stopped that crap.

A lot of times, beta drivers cause a lot of those errors. Again, as long as things are working as expected/intended, don't worry too much about it. Just make sure there aren't any hardware related errors being generated. Some could pertain to HDD's or memory issues.

Maybe post a screen shot of what you're referring to.

Here is 3 of the 12.The reason I am going through this is because of the stupid baby sitter popup that always asked if you wanted to open the page up, everytime you click on something. This is where you disable it.I may have disabled the wrong thing.I still get a popup asking me if...etc. I'm wondering if I disabled the wrong item.

Hey OM_G your sig and avatar look great...whoever made them is a truly talented person.

:P

In terms of your problem, it's possible, yes, that you disabled the wrong thing. It's also possible you don't have the right thing(s) enabled. Further than that I can do nothing but wish you luck, and enjoy my Windows XP goodness.
