Make sure you check out the Recommended Hardware Lists. for $800, you could piece together a decent system from the budget and mainstream lists.

Case: Coolermaster CM690 - Good case with lots of airflow.

CPU: E6600 - Nice deal form a nice guy.

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - Excellent P35 chipset. I would have recommended the DFI Blood Iron, but no one seems to have those in stock. If you can find one, I highly recommend it. But (IMO) the Gigabyte is pretty good as well.

GPU: EVGA 9600GT - New 9-series card from a great manufacturer (read HERE).

RAM: OCZ Platinum (Rev. 2) 2x1GB 800MHz - Great RAM at a great price, and the rebate just makes it better. Crucial Ballistix is excellent as well. I'd be happy with the OCZ or the Crucial kits.

HDD: Seagate 7200.11 500GB 32MB Cache - 500GB, 32MB of cache, you really can't complain.

Total: $695 without tax/shipping.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II

The 9600GT is a bit better than a 8600GT, about the same as an AMD HD3870 AFAIK. LINK, LINK

I'd also second that gigabyte board, I have a p965 chipset board of theirs, it's awesome for how cheap it was.

I'd still get the 8800GT over the 9600GT
