Default Speaker help.

Just got Newegg.com - Logitech Z-5500 505 Watts 5.1 Speaker - Retail in today and was all exited but for some reason when I turn up the volume i get some crazy noise. I thought I had read something about my motherboard having problems with the onboard sound and a way to fix it. I cant seem to figure it out and I know a few others here use the same board as me. Any info as always is much appreciated.

Okay step one have you confirmed this is not a speaker issue? Do you have another system you can plug them into to test? Perhaps an old sound card laying around you can hook up to test with?

I am presuming that you are running onbaord sound and that it is Reaktek based. With Vista go to Realtek and get the latest driver directly from them. I have found that the newest drivers are always there. With Vista the drivers direct from Realtek worked much better for me.

hmmm

alright this could be a driver problem, so definitely go on the website of the manufacturer of the sound card. i THINK for that motherboard it's SoundMAX...

anyway, the ASUS Website is definitely VERY good at having the Vista Drivers. If they're out, they're most likely there.

another very good idea would be to get the most updated instruction manual of your motherboard -> online. often times a slight imperfection man mess things up. if one port that you plugged in was placed incorrectly, it could be causing that. my recommendation is do not attempt to use the speakers until you've located and double checked the newest manual you can find (again, asus website).

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

there is the support homepage where you select your product, etc.

there, you'll find any audio drivers that they want to have there, and your updated manual.

good luck man.

Oh man, those are some killer speakers. Like Computer_Ed suggested, try another set of speakers (any speakers, even headphones) to see if the sound works. If it does, then you either hooked up your Z5500's wrong or they are bad (very unlikely). The other option is that you may have not installed your audio drivers or the installation didn't go so well. I've seen onboard audio start working once the drivers were uninstalled and then reinstalled.

The onboard sound controller on the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe is a Realtek ALC850 chip, not SoundMax. Upon further inspection on the Asus website, it doesn't look like their download section for the A8N32-SLI Deluxe has any Vista drivers. But after checking out the download section on RealTek's website, they have Vista Drivers for their AC'97 Audio Codecs, so give that a try. If that doesn't work, try contacting Asus support to see about getting an updated Vista driver from them.

I would first make sure all the speaker wires are connect all the way. You might have a loose wire some where causing distortion. Make sure you didn’t accidentally plug one of the cables into the wrong connector on the sound card. A cable plugged into the mic port could make an awful sound.

Ok, I pluged in some older Altec lansing and they are making the same noise and its only at higher volume that this noise is noticable (could be because I am half deaf lol) am trying the drivers blake suggested. Will let you all know how it goes.

Make sure you're setting the Creative software up for the configuration you're using. Check your sound settings in Windows as well. I don't have Vista running atm, so I can't tell you how to access those settings. A lot of times, when you have your CD, Line-In or Mic maxed out, you can get that distortion.
