Default server chipsets

What's the best chipset for a server board?

I love how you mention the type of CPU you're thinking about and the type of server you expect to build.
So, what is the CPU you're looking at?
and
what is the use of the so said server?

Maybe just a home server. Looking at the Intel LGA 775 platform. Not sure on the EXACT CPU, though.

Home server being? Streaming hi-res vid around the network? Dumping your downloads? Managing your whole entertainement system?

Mostly just my video library, streaming across the home network, but also a file server for my family. we will pretty much use this home server for storing everything. It's also a backup in case our regular computers crash, so it has to be REALLY reliable.

I use an Asus P3B-F (i440bX based) and a passively cooled Celeron-1200 (Tualatin core).

For you, I'd look at:
- Newegg.com - ASUS P5B-VM DO LGA 775 Intel Q965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
- Newegg.com - Intel Celeron 420 Conroe-L 1.6GHz 512KB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

The Celeron 420 only has a TDP of 35W, so you could probably even cool it passively with a good heatsink. Plus it won't use much power.

Laptop: Dell 640M | T2050 | 2x 512MB | 120GB | intel A/B/G | Bluetooth
File Server: P5GDC | 330J | 2x 512MB | X700pro | Promise S150 SX4 w/256MB | 4x Seagate 200GB RAID 5
Other: Linksys WRT54GL | Linksys EG008W | LaserJet 1320n w/144MB

Also, if you could wait 'til intel G35 based boards come out (soon) there would probably be a few better options. The onboard video on the G35 chipset will support DX10, better video acceleration, HDCP, as well as HDMI.

a good cheap, cool dual core cpu, how about trying this thing
Newegg.com - Intel Dual-Core E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
OR if you really want to push the boat out a core 2 would do a nice trick
I like the idea of the celeron aswell
I also think the G35 would be a good choise
