| i have a (pretty much) brand new DELL Inspiron 9400 Laptop all done up in MINT condition: Intel Core Duo T2500 (2.0GHz) 2GB DDR2-667 RAM GeFoce Go 7900GS 256MB RAM "110.39GB" (in Windows Vista) SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive DVD Multi Burner 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) AMAZING Widescreen Monitor (with TrueLife) 3 Year UNLIMITED Warranty (have had the machine for ALMOST 4 months) total retail cost: $2777.46 im paying monthly, so basically its still an ongoing payment if i do this... im STRONGLY debating selling this laptop (for about $2000) and buying a full brand new system. If i do this, ill basically be paying for tha system monthly (for the next 4 damn years...crap...) either way i can get a better system now with the cash, and have it more worth my while I THINK. i need to know if this is a good idea or not. here are my specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...887&cid=CPU.84 ASUS P5N-32 SLI Deluxe Motherboard http://canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=010873&cid=MB. 157 OCZ Platinum XTC 2x1GB Dual Channel Kit http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...67&cid=RAM.475 NEC 18x DVD Multi Burner http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...939&cid=CR.184 Antec P180 Case http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...333&cid=CS.664 ACER 20" Widescreen Silver http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...073&cid=MT.258 OR LG 19" Fullscreen Silver http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...040&cid=MT.983 Total with ACER BEFORE TAX: $1309.94 Total with LG BEFORE TAX: $1269.94 the rest is for a Video Card and Sound card, and this is what i have as options: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi ExtremeMusic http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...=008511&cid=SC OR Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...=008510&cid=SC ---------------------------------------------- eVGA 7900GS KO http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...id=999.243.390 OR Sapphire 1950XT http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...id=999.243.272 ---------------------------------------------- just to get some suggestions on the video card and sound card. im pretty sure i wanna go with the Platinum and 7900GS KO. with my selected sound/graphics card, the total INCLUDING TAX: With the LG: $1955 With the ACER: $2000.61 either way im GREAT with budget. i think the LG is the best bet, and ill most likely be adding in a: ZALMAN CNPS9500-Cu-LED http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...162&cid=FN.349 the price is gona be somewhere between 2200 and 2400 -- doesnt matter really to me. EDIT: And this Power supply: OCZ 700W GameXStream http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...076&cid=PS.808 and this Hard Drive (will be adding a 150GB Raptor LATER) Seagate 7200.10RPM 320GB (that new Parallel Technology thing -- i think this one has it) http://canadacomputers.com/index.php...0282&cid=HD.96 p.s. as u will see from the links, there are some sales happening for rebates, and what not. if i decide to do this, it will be before the new year, and most of these will still stand (i wanna get it done in the next 2 weeks to be honest with you, im just wondering STILL if this is the greatest idea). ----------------------------------------- Ultimately: Is this a good idea? If so, are the parts i chose good? right now im more caught up on deciding whether or not to sell this puppy...im not using it as a laptop enough to justify my purchasing it for now. P.S. 2000 isnt my full budget -- if there is definitely something worth upgrading, just let me know. thanks!!! Last edited by [Dr. V]; December 9th, 2006 at 14:13. |

| I'm Diggin it! | Me personally, I cannot even fathom paying monthly for a computer. In 4 years, any laptop or desktop you have now will be regulated to an Internet only machine. And you'll still be paying monthly for it...or have just finished paying for it. My suggestion? Sell the laptop, pay off Dell and save your money up for a new desktop. That's my "Ultimate" suggestion. | Night Xblade has it right on. im establishing credit, and $95 a month with DELL for 4 years gives a great credit boost and is very very easy to come up with. Quakindude -- i was planning on doing this, and buying a REALLY cheap dummy rig...but then i thought to break off this thing with DELL so soon would be foolish. im getting the payments in easy and its helping my credit. also, i can pay as much as i want per month up to $1000, so im gona be paying it off in about 3 years the way i have it planned. the only reason why im considering selling this thing is because i needed a computer so badly that 2 months before Core 2 Duo came out for lappys (like i knew) i went and got a Core Duo. these things dont have too much of a perfromance diff between the lappys, but desktop Core 2 Duo E6400 is incredible. i think its time to do this, i just dont know 10000% yet... EDIT: i added a PSU to the build...pretty important i think LoL. EDIT2: whats wrong with me...Hard Drive...added... It looks like what i'll be doing (if i dont have enough cash at the time) is not getting a Sound Card and using the ports that mobo has for surround -- its fine. Even still i have the Hard Drives in there now. Last edited by [Dr. V]; December 9th, 2006 at 08:36. |

| Go here, see what Dell is getting for something similar. I looked at a few, you may be low-balling the number. Putting it up for auction on ebay with a reserve may get it sold. | That's an awesome laptop to just buy and sell like that. I would hang on to it, despite the fact its a laptop, it shouldn't be bad for gaming. | it isnt bad for gaming - not at all!!! im just trying to grab an opportunity to get something BETTER in place of it and pay the same price to dell for an even better product. [[[ALL PRICES ARE IN CANADIAN DOLLARS]]] just thought it would be useful! i just found an AMAZING deal at BestBuy that im seriously considering playing around with: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...gon=&langid=EN thats $1600 including tax. ill pick up this XFX 7900GS XXX Edition (what a card!!!) http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...Tab=2&NoMapp=0 for about $282 including tax! Next is probably the Antec P180 case (silver so it will match that monitor well). if not that first, then either way im gona sell that E6300 and upgrade to a E6600 soon. thoughts? with a 22" widescreen and that package w/2GB RAM 8-channel HD audio, i think it's a GREAT deal in my opinion -- what do you think? the monitor is 700:1 and 5ms!
