| Taken from: Paul Thurrott: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Not Coming - KezNews.com And while I'm ranting a bit, let's dredge up Windows XP Service Pack 3, which was delayed from 2005 to 2006 to 2007 and now to 2008. If you were looking for any glimpse into the mind of Microsoft, this is it: The company has completely abandoned Windows XP, and it has absolutely no plans to ever ship an XP SP3. My guess is that Microsoft will do what it did with the final Windows 2000 Service Pack: Claim years later that it's no longer needed and just ship a final security patch roll-up. This is the worst kiss-off to any Microsoft product I've ever seen, and you'd think the company would show a little more respect to its best-selling OS of all time. But the reality is, Microsoft is looking ahead to new revenue and not behind to money that's already in the bank. And though hundreds of millions of people will be running XP for years to come, despite Microsoft's best efforts at selling them a later Windows version, the company has absolutely no plans to actually support those customers. This flies in the face of its publicly-stated life cycle support plans. And it really freaks me out. It should freak you out as well. | duh! of course M$ will not release sp3 or provide support for XP, that would give most people a reason to stick with XP. If they did not abandon XP, then how would M$ make more money ???? ![]() || AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice | Asus A8N5X s939 | OCZ Premier PC3200 Du-Ch 1GB | Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB PCI-e | 1xWD 80Gb & 1xWD 250Gb Sata(s) | Antec SLK3800B Case | Enermax NoiseTaker 485W || | ||||||||||||||

| Yeah that's a good idea if you don't play any games:) I will be switching to Vista as soon as R600 is released. R600 might be the point where enthusiast switch. DX10 simply owns. And about Linux from a enthusiast who has used Windows my whole life: Ubuntu Edgy Eft rules for many things like running server apps ect. Heck it has good support for playing MP3. | I'll switch to VIsta on this rig, when it gets some time in the real world. I'll put it on the next build.......hopefully this summer. Vista needs to be enthusiast friendly, witch it isn't yet. ![]() Raidmax case (don't know what it's called) MSI NEO4 Platinum AMD x2 3800+ Manchester 2450mHz Apacer DDR400 2x1gb WD 3200KS 320 gb Seagate 7200.10 160gb NEC 3550A DVD RW/DL Thermaltake Big Typhoon Xp Pro x64 | ||||||||||||||
