Default recycling old PSU wires?

is this a bad idea or am I an enviro-genious?

I cut all the wires out of my old PSU before we got rid of it and I plan to use them for my projects. I have about a pound and a half of insulated copper wires.

Is that good or bad?

Uh, I vote "GOOD". I salvage all sorts of stuff from old or partially fried PSUs. Wires, connectors, assorted parts and whatever.

<EDIT> Assuming it is good servicable condition. </EDIT>

I'll have to show this thread to the Mrs, this way she'll be aware that it isn't just me who does this.

Worst that could happen is she'll think you all are weird too :)

personally i'd just get a spool of solid core wire.
i prefer working with it just because it fits in PCB's easier, even though the multi-strand wires soak up the solder and sometimes give you better connections

Weird? Nah, it's a matter of being frugal and practical. The wife here does not even question my junk collection. Nothing ever gets to the treelawn unless it is pure garbage. Never know whan a part or connector from an old PSU or motherboard will come in handy. I view this "junk" as a gold mine.

Its not that wire is expensive, but for some reason I can never find the multi-strand wire (i like it more cuz its flexier [just made that word up]). I would always buy a spool of wire for like 3 bucks and be pissed when I got home and it was solid. Plus, this wire is good up to 300v. Not that I'll be using anywhere near that. lol.
