Recovering deleted files from an IPOD

I updated my IPOD.....and it proceeded to deleted about 850 songs. Have any of you have any experience recovering deleted IPOD files, and can you recommend an application? I'm looking for a free app (duh)

The only free app I can think of will not recover any files, but the app is

As an Ipod is not much more than a hard drive, I would suggest the regular data recovery tools. Most of these are not free, but I seem to remember a trial package from one of the data recovery firms. I wish I could remember the name right now, I'll update if it comes off the tip of my tongue.
