| Hi, I'm currently building a new computer, but would like to update an AGP card on an older computer as well. It currently has an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 256MB which has done it well as a secondary gaming computer for some time, but it's going extinct now and I'd like to breath one last breath into it before putting it away due to outdated AGP technology. I'm looking for the best option, $100 or less, to put in there as an upgrade to the Fx5200, preferably with low power requirements. No less than 256MB. Thanks |

| I'm Diggin it! | At that price point, you can't beat EVGA's 7600GS. $99 to buy with a $20 MIR bringing it down to $79. | Thanks, that looks like a good option. Any idea on power use differences between the two? |

| I'm Diggin it! | The FX5200 was built on a larger manufacturing process, so was less efficient with electricity. The 7600GS has a newer, smaller process and uses electricity more efficiently. The 7600GS probably uses less wattage than the older FX5200 series. The FX5xxx line was well known for being power hungry and inefficient. They were especially well known for horrible shader performance as well. The 7600GS uses between 30-50 watts max. The GT version maxes out at 70W. I think you'll be fine. ![]() BTW, please forgive me for not properly welcoming you to the forums in my first post! WELCOME!! | Thanks for the welcome. Yeah the shader handling was horrible, I only liked the card in there because it has been through so much. I've gotten it work with so many games it probably shouldn't have. ![]() Thanks for the info. 7600GS looks like the perfect card for the job. |

| What do you think about the ASUS 7600GS? Newegg.com - ASUS N7600GS SILENT/HTD/256M GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail I was going to order the evga but that's sold out. I don't have much experience with ASUS. |

| For gaming a 7600 is weak. Get an ATI X1k AGP card.. Or even an X800 card. | the AGP computer is weak ;) It's mostly used for MMOs while I FPS game on my main system. I'm open to anything so long as it meets power needs and price, but the ATI cards look sold out at newegg. The 7600GS looks like a great fit. |

| I had a 7600gs in my daughters computer and it performed well, it should handle the gaming you've described easily. |
