| I just built this computer around the 1st of the year. what im experiencing is after time, and loading multiple video clients (games), the operating system will lock up for about 3min, then after this has passed, everything starts lagging out. i then close all the clients and when i restart windows xp, it takes 4-5 times as long to load windows as when I 1st boot up. occationally it will time out at the windows loading screen, ill hit the reboot button and select load from last known working settings and windows will load in the regular loading time. I really have no idea whats causing this. any help is appreciated. | You need to run Adaware and Spybot SD to see if you have any nasty little apps running. Did you change any drivers/apply any Windows updates lately? Also, your computer will run better with just 2x1Gb sticks of ram in it. I've not seen a motherboard yet that doesn't lose performance from having all 4 banks populated with Ram. Plus, since you're using a 32-bit OS, Windows can't even begin to use all the ram. Even though the OS says it will run 4Gb, it actually only figures out the around 2.8-3.4 Gb because of the Ram used on HDD's, Optical drives, sound cards and video cards. If you want to see the results for yourself, just download Sisoft Sandra and run the memory benchmarks. You need to check all of your cooling fans in your computer. Make sure they're all cleaned out. You could be having an overheating issue. Pay particular attention to the CPU, Video card and PSU fans. Make sure you unplug the PSU and then hit your power button to discharge stored current before cleaning. Use air in a can to blow all the crap out. Make sure you practice the same self grounding measures as you did when building it. This time of year is horrendous for static electricity. If none of these gets you back to normal, let us know. We will then look in device manager for any conflicts. If none are found, it may just be a highly bloated OS in bad need of a freshly formatted Hard Drive and reinstall. OH! Excuse my bad manners! WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! ![]() You will surely find a ton of help here. | Hey I'm Jayzer's brother. I told him to post on here but since his comp is unable to post atm I thought I'd give an update. Well he did update windows yesterday but he has had this problem for a couple weeks now I think. Didn't run Adaware but ran S&D and that had some kind of registry change to be fixed (was a windows registry) which I have never seen before in S&D. We noticed something was bogging the system down and saw that logitechs driver (optical mouse driver) was messed up and so we removed that but boot times were still slow and once windows came up it was a little better but still wasn't working right. So we thought maybe windows was whacked out and decided to run a scan disk to see if that would find anything and thats been running for about 12 hours now. All the fans are working in the antec 900 case along with the CPU fan and GPU fan is running. Haven't checked his device manager to see if anything was out of the ordinary since the scan disk is still running lol. He knows about the 32 bit limitation he plays a lot of lineage 2 and runs up to 6 clients at a time so all the ram he can get is helpful. And I'm not sure if Lineage2 works in XP 64 bit. He doesn't want vista. Just a couple more hours and my order will be delivered :) C2D E8400 3.0GHz Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev.2 Samsung 20x Burner Samsung 500GB Seagate 160GB ASUS HD 3870 512mb 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 mhz PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610w Samsung 226BW 22" | ||||||||||||||

| You can also try going to Start, then Run... Then type msconfig and click OK. Select the last tab (the one labeled "Startup") and uncheck any unneeded items that aren't crucial to the Operating System. If you are unsure about an item, search for the file on your computer or do a Google search on the internet and see if you can learn a little more about what it is before you disable it. | ||||||||||||||

| Yeah we Used easycleaner to remove any unnecessary startup programs. In his case the only thing really to remove was the logitech driver and acrobat reader. Would it be a bad idea to reboot the comp while it's doing a scan disk? Since it's taking forever we might as well wipe the damn thing.
