Default Parts suggestions

Since I will be getting rid of my current setup (partially) I will need a few new toys to play with.

I am looking for suggestions for a nice, not too expensive motherboard to overclock.

I want to go quad core, so my first thought was the Q6600, since it's the only one I can afford. However someone slapped me around and made me realize the Q9300 was close to release, many sites having received their ES. I'm thinking of buying a very cheap C2D that I could overclock for the time while I wait for my quad to be on market.

I need suggestions on memory, too. I want 4GB, and Paul linked me to 2 very nice 4GB kits (2x2GB) from Patriot.
NCIX.com - Buy Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 4GB DDR2 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL 4-4-4-12 Memory Kit - PVS24G6400LLK In Canada.
NCIX.com - Buy Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB 2X2GB PC2-6400 DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 EPP Dual Channel Memory Kit - PDC24G6400LLK In Canada.

The only other kit I've seen was the Gskill one
NCIX.com - Buy G.SKILL F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK In Canada.

But I'm frankly not a fiend of baby blue in my computer. If the Gskill kit surpasses the Patriot ones by a lot i'll have no choice I guess, but in the event that both are equal or the Gskill kit doesn't perform as much I'd be happy. :P Those crazy taiwanese, heh.

Also since I will be getting a quad core, I want suggestions for a good cooler. I already have a Thermaltake Big Typhoon in an Antec Nine Hundred case, so things are flowing pretty smoothly. Is it enough for a quad core monster though? I expect to overclock my quad core to something like 3Ghz to 3.4Ghz, which seems feasable if I look around the web. If it's enough, I will still need a cooler suggestion, as I expect to sell my Opteron 165 as it is, overclocked to 2.7Ghz. Nothing too crazy, something in the $30 dollar range @ NCIX.com.

While at it, suggestions for a TV tuner with least possible lag would be appreciated. I was using my X1900XT VIVO functions to play video games on my monitor, and it was nice because I could use Dscaler to enhance the picture clarity and whatnot. The VIVO had barely any lag, which was great, but I know a lot of TV tuners have horrible lag. I don't want to plug my consoles straight to my monitor with a VGA box or such, for filtering purposes. I used S-video for most of my consoles, but it would be nice to have component input, to get the best image. :)

Thanks
polo~

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

I don't know much about TV Tuners, but you should at least give your Big Typhoon a try on the quad core. The Big Typhoon is still a great cooler, and the new 45nm process of the Q9300 should help with the thermal envelope as well. If it doesn't cut the mustard, then you could look into something like the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme or ZeroTherm Nirvana.

The Blood Iron's not too hot on quads (or so I've heard) due to the 4-phase PWM's. If you can afford it, look at the DFI UT P35-T2R.

The thing is if I take my Typhoon for this new build, i'll need something to keep the family build (aka my computer right now) cool. I think the Typhoon does an excellent job so far, I'm not sure I would like to put anything less on the family build, seeing as they will probably end up with a somewhat cheaper case (maybe my SLK1650, thought I've been wanting to mod this thing for so long) or something else.

Aye, that's quite the expensive board there. I would like something a little bit more budget minded if possible.

However, I'm not too sure on the quad already. I really want one, now if it's needed.... I seriously doubt it. The E8400 is doing extremely well right now, it's cheap, what's not to like? :/

Yea, I think the E8400 is the way to go right now. That and the Blood Iron is a winning pair.

I like the Blood Iron, what can I say... and I'd rather not be the CEO of DFI, their doing fine as it is.

You could order a cheapo Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 for the family rig when you buy all your new parts, that should be up to the task of cooling an Opteron just fine (although maybe not at 2.7GHz).

I'm looking to keep it at 2.7Ghz though. It's not crazy hot, F@H SMP load at 40ish with my Typhoon in my Antec 900. *shrugs*
