| I'm Evil | How many times have we been asked by someone if they should “build or buy”, and how many times has the answer been, “You should build, of course.” We lost count. We are, after all, computer enthusiasts. We often look on OEM systems like we look on lima beans. They will sustain you, but they are teh icky. We even offer hardware recommendations to help a fellow (or fellowette) builder along in their first (or 20th) system build. There is nothing like the gratifying feeling one gets after the first good POST of a hand built system. The feeling of accomplishment in DIY comes so much from the "Y". Of course, one of the reasons that feeling is so gratifying is because there are plenty of chances for failure and frustration along the road. No risk, no reward as they say. | Yea that was some good reviewing. I think if people are really serious about building their own computer they should probably read stuff like this. But if i was gonna drop like 3000 or more on a computer i would definitely leave it in the hands of a professional, simply because they test the equipment to ensure it works. Not like these online stores that sell faulty parts, i wouldnt want to deal with that on a more expensive item. | Super Moderator | I chose the subject for those reasons. And, of course the opportunity presented itself with the HP. Basically it was aimed at folks who always buy OEM and don't know what the differences are. I hope now some folks who were considering building will take the leap. And also, I wanted builders to know that OEMs have a place - maybe not your place - but a place. Glad you guys liked it. Manta |
