Default No mouse and keyboard on boot

Hey guys,

I got my new hardware today and I set it all up. When I boot up and go into windows XP, it says my hardware was changed and I need to reactivate. However, my mouse nor keyboard work. I turned on USB Legacy support and all other USB options in my BIOS but none of them help. I tried using USB and PS/2 mouse/keyboard but it didn't help. When I had my keyboard in PS/2, I got an error saying "keyboard error or no keyboard found" So I am guessing it didn't find it in PS/2... I also tried booting with USB disabled, but I still get same error.

Oh yea! I am using the ECS KA3 MVP motherboard. The OS is Windows XP PRO SP2. Everything worked fine (even mouse/keyboard) with my old hardware... but only this hardware doesn't work. Do you think the windows XP just doesn't have USB enabled and I should format the drive and install fresh copy of windows?

Any ideas? Thanks!

Well first we need to make sure its windows. Can you get into the bios and use the keyboard? You get that error when you have the PS/2 Keyboard in, but not the USB, right?

Also note that its normally best to format windows on a new motherboard, though not necessary, and may not be the problem in your case.

Hey guys. Sorry for bothering you :(

For some odd reason, after I pressed all of the buttons on the mouse at the same time it started to work and so did the keyboard. I am in windows now and I uninstalled all drivers and everything from old mobo :)

Thanks for the reply though!

All I can say is keep an eye out for this problem to happen again. If it does, hopefully what you did to make it work this time will work again. Occasionally, I will boot up and everything is good, but my mouse just sits like a lump until I physically unplug the connector and put it back. Then all is good. Otherwise, good luck with the new toy!

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Maybe a sticky key? I know alot of BIOS will say keyboard error/keyboard not found when a key is held for too long before POST. Glad you solved your problem though. :)

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?
