| Hello there. New member here, with aspirations of getting back into the PC modding scene full stream. I'm planning on building a top-notch gaming PC, which will maintain potential for at least one generation of future upgrades. Peace and Quiet are also my main goals. My last PC was a P4 3.2ghz in a Thermaltake XaserIII case. That baby kept things cool with over seven 80mm fans buzzing away. No more of that. Not completed yet... but here is my soon-to-be build: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 ASUS P5E3 Deluxe motherboard 2GB DDR3 Memory (unknown) EVGA 8800GTS G92 (SLI in future w/watercooling) 700-800 watt Power supply (unknown) Thermaltake Armor Case w/24cm fan Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1 (from old pc) Windows XP Pro SP2+ Toshiba Regza 1080p 42" LCD TV Custom PC Gaming Chair The memory will probably be budget DDR3 mem at first, since the P5E3 MB accepts DDR3, and because eventually DDR3 will be affordable as well as lightning fast. At first I was leaning towards the Q6600 Quad core because I believed it would last longer in terms of lifespan. But from more recent reviews and news about the E8000 series, plus the reduced heat they produce, I've changed my mind. The case was an easy choice. I've always used Thermaltake cases, and once I saw the Armor VE8003 with that huge 24cm side-fan... I was hooked. Just worried about dust intake... Then there's the "Custom Gaming Chair." That's really going to put the icing on the cake for me. I'm converting my very comfortable leather office chair into the perfect PC Gamer's Chair. My biggest issue with keyboard/mouse setups have been the way you have to hunch over to reach the keys, or twist your wrist for hours of gaming to use the mouse. No longer. I've purchased two of these badboys, and am planning on using a wireless keyboard and mouse for ultimate ergonomic comfort: Your connection to your computer is as important as your computer I spoke at length with the sales person "Darius." IF you are curious, talk to their sales staff. They're very courteous people. Now, imagine gaming in total comfort... in front of a 42" Toshiba 1080p screen! Woohoo, can't wait! . | Relativity is fun!
| The biggest problem with that that I see is the fact that your mobo doesnt support the sli that you plan on using in the future.... e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| yeah the only option for SLI with DDR3 is the 790i chipset right now. Asus and EVGA both make 790i boards. | ||||||||||||||

| Hmm, can't believe that escaped me when you posted your build in the other thread. The 790i is a beast though, and should easily match/exceed the X38. One thing to consider is that the site owner is selling a kick ass system on the cheap, I would at least give the thread a look over as it's quite a deal. http://forums.hardwarelogic.com/f35/capper-s-sale-thread-11478.html Last edited by Stormcrow; April 10th, 2008 at 16:37. | ||||||||||||||

Yeah... I feel dumb for not realizing that the P5E3 doesn't support SLI ![]() Are there any new architectures coming out in the near future I should also keep an eye on? I'd hate to grab a 790i board now... then in 3 months a more capable architecture be released. Which 780i motherboards out there also support DDR3? Are Tigerdirect.com Motherboard/CPU/Memory bundles a good deal? . Last edited by dttuner; April 11th, 2008 at 05:31. | |||||||||||||||
