Default New PC for the bro!

So yeah, in the mod thread I said that we're scrapping that idea and going my route of building a new PC using his old CPU.

Here's the lineup so far. Any recommendations? The CPU is a P4 3.06GHz w/ HT (533MHz FSB).

ASRock P4VM890 - $49.99
Newegg.com - ASRock P4VM890 Socket 478 VIA P4M890 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Corsair VS 1GB - $74.99
Newegg.com - CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Western Digital 200GB SATA HD - $59.99
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE WD2000JS 200GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

eVGA 7600GT - $134.99
Newegg.com - eVGA 256-P2-N554-AX Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

FSP 400W PSU - $43.99
Newegg.com - FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX400-PN, RoHS, 12cm FAN, version 2.2, 2 SATA, 20+ 4 pin, PCI Express, 400W Power Supply - Retail

Cooler Master Centurion 532 - $49.99
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Centurion 532 RC-532-SKN1 Black Aluminum bezel, SECC chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

Sony NEC 18X Burner - $30.99
Newegg.com - Sony NEC Optiarc Black 18X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 18X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache E-IDE / ATAPI DVD Burner - OEM

SYBA PCMCIA to PCI - $19.99
Newegg.com - SYBA PCMCIA PCI to Cardbus Add-on Card Model SD-PCI-PCM - Retail

That PCMCIA to PCI card is for his sound card BTW. And depending on the price of the 8600GT/GTS, I may go for that (this is going down in the summer).

This is something like $550 shipped. Only thing I lacked is a HSF... Recommendations?

- Core 2 Quad Q6600

Default Re: New PC for the bro!

for starters id step up the HDD to the 250gb caviar, make the optical a SATA, (there isn't any price difference if you look around for more than 5minutes)
as for the HSF how much are you willing to pay?
~$30 would get the solid Arctic cooling 64 or a more basic zalman, and a higher budget would get you something like a zalman, one of cooler masters newer more exotic cooling solutions, or something like one of thermaltake's HSF's, (the big typhoon comes to mind = D)

This is a hella hot CPU... laptop recorded 71 degrees C at max. Of course, with a PC's cooling, that number would probably max at like high 50s, early 60s. So a decent set up with AS5 would be nice. Probably a HSF around $40 and the AS5 at $7.
