you can but it will lower the CPU speed... since it matches the cpu fsb to the memory speed, it will run at 1.8GHz instead of 2.2GHz
standard speed = 200MHz x 11 multiplier = 2.2GHz
using the PC2700 = 166MHz x 11 = 1.8GHz

Thanks HL and Corsair!

ive never heard of it running the cpu at a lower frequency due to DDR333. in any case you can put the memory on a divider so it runs DDR333 while the processor FSB runs at 200mhz

What is a divider? And how is that done?

OR what mem modules are recommended?

a memory divider divides ram to cpu speeds. so lets say you put your memory on a 1/3 divider. what that means is for every 3 mhz on the cpu's FSB the ram gets 1 mhz. these dividers are generally used by overclockers who's ram cant scale as high as their cpu's. so lets say your cpu can run at a fsb of 250mhz but your ram can only run at 200mhz. you would put your ram on a 5/4 divider. (i think thats right, my math skills are enough for paying the bills and i dont have a bios screen in front of me.)

Yep thats correct Simple, it would be a 5/4 divider. You could also run the divider at 5/4 to run the ram at close to its rated mhz. If you have the cpu set to 200 and you set the divider at 5/4 that would be 320mhz for the ram.

Now if the boards supports the divider to be set at 6/5 then with the cpu running at 200 the ram would be at 334mhz.

Yes, you can use the PC-2700 memory and it won't lower your CPU speed. It will just adjust the HTT:RAM divider to make the memory run at 166 MHz independantly of the processor's 200 MHz HTT bus frequency (formerly known as FSB).
