Default New Monitor recommendation

you read the title!!
my folks monitor, a '95 Dell CRT is beginning to die, finally.
the colors are getting really washed out, there are 2 horizontal bars that are VERY pale, it's huge, and it uses up more power than my comp, (or at least i tell them that to convince them to buy mine, so i can get a new one)

So here's what i proposed to them, and they seemed to like the idea.
They buy mine for ~$80
(it's a 19" WS LCD 1440 x 900)
Great monitor, got it for $200 off newegg
Newegg.com - AG Neovo CW-19 Black 19" 4ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail

And my birthday is in May, so I figure I'll do this deal around that time with my birthday money, and get myself a new monitor.
here is what i have been looking at.
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 225BW Black 22" 5 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor with Height Adjustments - Retail
what do you guys think?

:O that samsung's definitely a nice monitor, and not TOO overpriced for a samsung.

my bday tomorrow money will be rolling in a bit that will help me too:D

im in canada though, and newegg's prices in CAD are almost just as bad as the prices here in canada for SAMSUNG products.

20" WS LCD: LG vs SAMSUNG vs ViewSonic

pretty cool discussion there too i started that just recently lets choose a nice monitor for both of us!!!

Canada Computers - Your Neighbourhood Computer Store and Service Centre - PC Systems and Hardware Components, Notebooks, Electronics, and more.

maybe its not so bad after all!!!!

thing is --- any reviews ive seen comment on its annoyingly noticeable backlight bleeding, and some about its viewing angles in certain positions...

does look hopeful, though, to be an 8-bit panel (it does matter!)

That's actually a fairly decent monitor. It's not great, but it's definitely not bad. The viewing angle is about low to average for that size screen and the contrast ratio is about average. It has a great response time (5ms) and a stand will all the adjustments you could want (very important, especially on a screen with a smaller viewing angle). And according to the PDF spec sheed, it has HDCP over the DVI too (which is required for viewing HDCP protected high-def content in Windows Vista (like a Blu Ray or HD-DVD movie).

Overall, it seems like a decent purchase. It's not a great price, but at least you are getting a decent monitor.

viewing angle isn't a concern of mine.

anything else you guys would suggest?
i figure if i'm getting a new one i might as well go bigger and get a higher resolution...

this ones really catching my attention! @16.7M real colors it has to be 8-bit...and its a samsung of course. like u said all the adjustment capabilities dont make it a concern of mine if the viewing angle isnt up to par!
