| Ok, christmas is just around the corner and ive decided to go all out (Well On My $2200 CAD budget). I have some experience building, my first upgrade was about ten years ago when i upgraded my 33mhz to a 133mhz ah those were the days... Anyways i use my system mainly for gaming, some video encoding and to run my home security (Dont get any ideas). Below is what i have in mind, but id like to hear what everyone else thinks. Thanks OCZ OCZ3P13332GK DDR3 PC3-10666 2G / 1333MHz / Platinum Edition / Dual Channel in kit Price: $499.00 Antec TPQ-1000 TruePower Quattro 1000 - Power supply ( internal ) - ATX12V 2.2/ EPS12V 2.91 - AC 100-240 V - 1 kW - active PFC - United States Price: $219.00 ASUS EN8800GTX HTDP 768M PICEXPRESS CHIPSET GF8800GTX 768MB TV-OUT DVI Price: $519.00 Antec P182 Performance One ATX no power supply - gun metal black - USB/FireWire/Audio Price: $122.00 Western Digital 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Price: $95.99 ASUS C2D P5K3 DELUXE WIFI LGA775 INT. | Looks like a solid build. If your willing to spend a ludicrous amount on money for DDR3 memory, go for it. But at the current time, the price/performance ratio is best with DDR2 memory, and your likely to see good performance with it, especially because DDR3 is in it's infancy and the timings are really loose. Currently the best memory for the money is Cucial Ballistix, usually at the 800MHz speed, but if you can afford higher, go for it. And if you are going with DDR2, you'll need a new board. Gigabyte is good, and I've heard great things about the DFI P35-T2R, especially if you are overclocking. Everything else looks good, IMO, but what are you going to do about the 8800GTX/P182 issue? Is a mod in order? And welcome to Hardwarelogic! ![]() E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 4GB G.Skill 800MHz Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 320GB |

| With what you have listed, you have absolutely no need for a 1k watt psu. You aren't even close to needing that. There are several online power supply calculators that you can put in what you have and it will tell you what size psu to buy. Also, most of the ones I've been to are generous in the recommendation. So if it sez you need a 650watt you really don't need to step up to a 700/750. Here's the one I go to quite often to check on builds. eXtreme Outer Vision - eXtreme tools for computer enthusiasts BTW, I put in what you listed. Added 4 120mm fans, 4 usb devices, DVD burner, card reader, Sound blaster and a couple other small things. Came up with 376 watts. So unless you're gonna add a WHOLE bunch more stuff, as I stated earlier, that 1k is not needed. The computer in my signature runs F@H 24/7 and only uses 200 watts. Draws a little bit more gaming. But not that much more. (The lcd isn't included in that 200 watts.) | The reason im going with such a high watt PSU is my B-Day isnt far off after christmas, so i was thinking of getting another Video card. To mirror the first... Its roadkill, but id like to rub it in my buddies face... ![]() |

| Just a head's up, you can't run SLI with the board you have picked out... You'll need an nVidia board for that. E8400 DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL 4GB G.Skill 800MHz Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB Silverstone DA650W WD 250GB + Seagate 320GB |

If you want solid power while giving yourself room to grow, save yourself some money and get a quality 700-750W PSU. You can run a powerhouse system with two GTX XXX's with a good 700W PSU. I'll echo the thoughts on DDR3. You can spend that kinda dough on DDR3 if you really like throwing money out the window. But DDR3 won't be a significant contender until the Timings come down. In another 6 months, DDR3 might be worth the money. Might. What size monitor do you plan on using? If it isn't 24" or above, SLI'ing GTX's is a pure waste of money. Unless you're just wanting to pay to stroke your ego.
