| well I am going to start on my first comp build, I am looking forward to really getting to know more about building. some helpful insight would be nice being my research has only gotten me the knowledge to get started, and not to know all the tips and tricks witch i hope to learn by building and reading from this site. here is what i got so far. antec p180 case bfg 650w, psu intel E6400 or E6600 as for motherboard, graphics and sound cards i haven't narrowed it down yet. but I am making some head way there. also would you recommend watercooling i like the idea but being it my first I am not sure if its worth it? thanks in advance, john ![]() |

| I'm Diggin it! | A few questions first. Do you intend to overclock? Do you want SLI (Nvidia) or Crossfire (ATI) based graphics? What's your budget? How often do you upgrade? I strongly suggest going with air cooling instead of water. Water cooling, to me, isn't worth the risks for the potential dividends. Especially now with the much cooler and easier to cool Core2Duo CPU's. There's just too many air cooling solutions that perform within a few degrees of water setups. Unless you're totally against ANY fan noise, I would go with air cooling. Hell, I've been involved in computing to one degree or another for over 20 years and I prefer air cooling to water with the current gen hardware. | well budget iam not realy worried about i have saved for this, upgrades might be down the road but i want to set it up so i can later on, overclocking will be a thought of later once iam up and running but that will be just something for me to play with nothing that i need to do right away. but being that i will want to i mise well plan 4 it now. and yes i agree the down fall to water cooling if something should happen will suck. thats why i was wondering about it, but fan noise dosent bother me. |

| SLI is sort of future upgrade planned out, but unless you've got like a super big monitor, SLI doesn't really help. I'd just go with a 8800GTX or wait for the AMD/ATi (and probably better) equivalent. - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 |

| Seems like money is not an issue for you. I'd go with a 680i motherboard and a DirectX 10 graphic card. As for cooling, I agree that you should go with air cooling. The new Thermaltake MaxOrb came out and looks promising. Or a Zalman cooler. As for memory, Corsair, OCZ or Crucial. For a Power Supply, maybe a OCZ, PC Power and Cooling, but those are kind of overpriced. Good luck! As for memory, I'd definitely go for OCZ hands up. Corsair XMS has always been on my favorite side though because it's well-priced and delivers with a hitch. - Core 2 Quad Q6600 - DFI Infinity 975X - 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800 - 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM - ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB - Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W - Acer 19" P191W Monitor - Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution - Vista Ultimate x64 | |
