So what do ya think? I have the HDD's already, WD2500KS's and a 1TB FW800 drive. Enermax Chakra Case is what it's all going in. This case has a 120mm blue LED front intake fan that cools the HDD's, an 80MM blue LED front Intake that sends air directly through the flower on my CNPS9500LED, and a 120mm Blue LED exhaust fan that pulls air directly from the back of the flower. There's a MASSIVE 250mm, yes, that's 25cm side intake fan that is very quiet, but pulls in lots of air. And then there's the PSU exhaust fan. This tihng in a lot quieter than you would think! I should get all the parts in by this weekend.

My only concern at this point is my PSU. A brand new Antec NeoHE 550W. I was thinking that with the low power requirements of the CPU, and the efficiency being up to 85% on this PSU, that I'd be OK with it. What do you guys and gals think? I LOVE modular cabling and it is a "must have" for me.

Here's a picture of my baby.

The parts currently in that case, a K8N Neo2 Platinum, AMD 4800+ X2 CPU 2 gig of PC3200 ram, 7800GS CO video card and a couple of hard drives wil be transplanted to the kids computer. The stuff for the kids computer will get worked over and then a third box made for folding, web browsing and more than likely, a Clark Connect box seeing as how my other Linux box got fried by weather.

Uh, I only posted this in the one area. For some reason, it's in two different ones now.

I'd go with an intel chipset if you want to overclock.

Because nV is a PITA that means so SLI, but maybe just get a cheap video card now and then pick up a DX10 card when they come out.

Everything looks pretty good. I would also consider Crucial's Anniversary DDR2 kit. It's only rated at DDR667, but as you'll see in this review it has excellent OC potentially. The other nice aspect is that it's priced well, even for a DDR2-667 kit. I've actualyl got a Chakra laying around here waiting for it's parts. It's going to house a gaming sytem for my brother / test system for me. I really liked it overall, and if you're interested you can read my review here

The only thing that would really concern me would be stuffing all that nice hardware into a mid tower (the chakra is great, but still a mid-tower). The 25CM fan will help alot, but you might find it to be a bit cramped if you're working in it alot. The modular cabling will help, but don't be surprised if you experience some growing pains.

Besides that, all I have to say is enjoy it!

edit: I moved this thread to this more appropriate subsection. the remaining redirect will expire in 24 hours. no worries ;)

Sounds pretty good bro. You should consider the RAM Drew linked to. Very good!

What's gonna be your cooling for the CPU? Grab a Zalman for that.

Man, I hate it when I don't read posts... It's screwed me over several times at NewCelica.

Thanks for the redirect. If I have problems with this OCZ, I'll RMA and get the Cruicial.

Hey Quake, I've been away from the forums for most of the day and just now got your PM. Regarding the above build, these are my suggestions:

1) Unless you have a distinct need for SLI (such as a very large monitor running an unusually high resolution), settle for a single videocard solution. Budget doesn't seem to be much of a prohibiting factor, but even still, you'd be saving money by going this route. Some possible candidates in the top tier category include the 7950GX2, 7900GTX, or X1900XTX. Set them money saved aside for a future DX10 upgrade.

2) If we can agree to ditch SLI, let's move on to a higher end motherboard. Some options include the DFI 975X/G or the Asus P5W DH Deluxe.

3) Personally, I'm just not confident in the NeoHE series by Antec. If you can do without modular, the OCZ 600w GameXstream can be had for $97 shipped after $15 MIR, or snag the Quad-SLI certified 700w version for $115 shipped after $25 MIR. Or if modular is a must, splurge a bit on the solid M12 series by Seasonic, or pick up an Enermax Liberty.

4) And finally, if you haven't done so already, browse our Recommended Lists broken down by category.
