| I need a computer that can make quick work of editing video and if it can pump out great FPS on he latest and greatest games I wont complain. So here are my questions. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz? Vista or XP? Do need to spend 100s on a mobo? thanks for you help | ||||||||||||||

| Quote: I would say vista now. Things have matured, and even if XP runs things faster, you'll have to get vista one day, so may aswell get it today. I would say not. Look for a mobo that can support a 45nm CPU and offer good overclocking headroom. So p35 shipset, X38 or X48. Nvidia offer chipsets that are good aswell, but I dont know much on them, hopefully someone else will. Hope I've helped | |||||||||||||||

| X38 and X48 chipsets are going to be somewhat expensive. What is your budget jgalt92? Do you need a monitor, keyboard and mouse too? Speakers? ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you? | ||||||||||||||

I will echo Drew's opinion....and I'm someone who is using vista on all four computers. Vista is fine, I've had few problems with it, but its a resource hog....something you really don't need with resource intensive applications like those you are likely to be using. | Oh god time to let my ignorance shine. I need to edit AVCHD which seems to be the format of my canon hg10. I have monitor. keybord and such. I was just wondering if quad core is better for editing. I would like to keep everything around $1000. I already have monitor, keyboard and stuff like that. I built my old computer over 5years ago so I wont be using components from that. i just know from past experience that computer budgets can get out of hand fast and just want to make sure i build one that will last. | ||||||||||||||

| Hey, I've got that exact same camera.....awesome camera, awful software. I picked mine up for video reviews and covering special events, but the included software is such a hassle to work with I haven't even tried putting clips together. As to the system, make sure you check out our Recommended Hardware Lists, the mainstream computer should be right around your budget, and handle your needs just fine. | I stand corrected. I see what drew and capper are saying. Miss it out if you feel you want to. I'm just scared that developers will but lots of new games into the 'Vista only' section like halo 2. Although they should learn from that mistake. | ||||||||||||||

| your point is valid, and reasoning sound....i just think vista has such a negative reputation, and so few adopters, that most developers are scared to take that leap.......the big selling point was DX10, and its arguably been a flop.
