Default My upcoming build.

Enermax Chakra Mid Tower Case w/ 250mm Side Fan - Blue (ECA3052-BL) - FrozenCPU.com

GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3 ATX Intel Motherboard

mushkin 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

APEVIA Chameleon ATX-AS550W-BK 550W Power Supply

Intel Pentium D 805 2.66GHz LGA 775 Dual Core,EM64T Processor

I've got the HDD and drives already and don't really need anything else.
would this be a good setup?
Also would it overclock easily? i want to be able to try and overclock it alittle. just to see how its done.

The Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 should be available soon (review...), which is basically an update to the DS3 with the new ICH8R southbridge instead of the ICH8 on the DS3. It might be worth your while to wait for that, but not crucial...

Those Apevia power supplies aren't all that great either (read our review on a similar product). For about the same price, I would suggest the Enermax Liberty 400W as it has modular cables and is very reliable and stable (read our review of the 500W model).

And if you want to try your hand at overclocking, stepping the RAM choice up to a kit of DDR2-667 might be beneficial, especially for future processor upgrades.

And you might as well get the case from the same place as everything else and see if it will save you any $ on shipping costs...

And finally, you don't have a video card listed, do you plan to play games with this system or just general usage type stuff?

if you simply forgot, by the looks of the rest of the system, i'd say stick with the 7600gt
eVGA Geforce 7600GT 256-P2-N554-AX Video Card

Well thanks for the changes.
I changed the RAM
Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory, is that a better choice?

and I chose this PSU
ENERMAX Liberty ELT500AWT 500W Power Supply
Would I need this or would the 400w be fine?

Whats different about the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4? In simple terms. I don't know much about mobos.

I didn't see the case on new egg.and i like the huge fan and cool looks of the Chakra.

it will be for gaming but not for a while . im just getting everything to make it operational.

i see your taking my recomendation instead of upgrading to an AGP video card. lets see what you got.....that enermax you selected is a very good psu. plenty of power, reliable and stable. that case is a beast with that fan man! thats gonna help cool that pentium D805. i say if your not into overclocking, then stick with the DDR2 533. however if your gonna overclock, then i suggest going with a kit of DDR2 667 or DDR2 800 if possible.

looks like an awesome build. I like everything you've got so far.

For the videocard. If you can, get the 7600GT. They are pretty cheap and they are great videocards. It's going to be a HUGE upgrade from what you have.

If you don't have the money, then there are othercards, like the 7600GS or the x1600pro or the x1650pro.

i'll have the money just it will take more time. by the 20th i should have 500 for the system and i think i have it at like 670 before shipping and taxes.so by next month i will be able to buy everything.

The 7600GT is a very popular card (as you can see), so there are lots of versions of it. eVGA, BFG, and XFX are known to have some of the best warranties, so I would stick with those. Beyond that, just look at price, featureset and bundle. Some cards might come with full versions of games while others might have a utilities CD containing useful applications. Check the cooling solution and clock speeds of the cards too. Some have passive heatsinks or upgraded cooling while others may have slightly higher clock speeds which might be the cause for price differences in seemingly identical cards. But the minor clock speed differences won't make much of a real world difference, so I wouldn't put too much weight on that in your final purchase decision.

i reccomended the eVGA card because they tend to overclock the most, (from my experiences) and they have the best stock cooling solution, and their warranty covers everything short of throwing it out the window...also their customer support is amazing
