| Functional Alcoholic | A guy at work asked me to build a Computer for him that will be used for Music Editing. It will not be used for video editing or gaming so a high speed graphics are not required. The Budget is $1500. How does this config look? | if possible, try to get a couple 150GB Raptors for music storage or something because loading and reading will be A LOT faster. or at least one for the OS and programs so those can be read a lot quicker. besides that it all seems good. |

| I would get a 7300gt instead of the 7600gt considering that it is not a gaming pc. I would also add another cd drive because it for music editing. Windows XP Media Center Edition might be a better os. My ideas don't count though, because everyone else here is more knowledgable than me. lol. ![]() |

| Functional Alcoholic | 2 150gb Raptors is not fast enough to justify the price premium. The 320GB Seagate with 16mb Cache is the best Bang for Buck drive for this build. |

| Normally I would recommend the raptors as well, but raptors aren't cheap and there is a $1500 budget. I think that the hard drive choice here is good. Though an external hard drive might be good. I like to keep my music on my external hard drive so I can take it to and fro. ![]() |

| they are good ideas. you would save considerate money going with an EVEN CHEAPER card like an X300 or something -- as cheap as u can on the graphics card -- then u can easily grab another DVD burner of the same sort. the thing with windows media center is that it isnt justified enough in terms of what it gives you to be worth the extra money. if he's editing music professionally, im sure he does (or he should) have all the professional software for it. Windows XP Pro -- MAYBE -- but even that isnt necessary. |

| Functional Alcoholic | The guy specifically requested Windows Home, I would go with pro but this isn't for me. He has an External HD already. This computer will be connected to other sound equipment. The Optical drive will only be used to burn off Samples and Backups. The 7600GT is only $100 and will be a decent card for years to come. He already has all of his Pro Audio Software. |

| How will he connect/capture the audio? The selected card doesn't have to much inputs and/or a break-out box with more in/out ports. I assume your buddy already has this? || AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice | Asus A8N5X s939 | OCZ Premier PC3200 Du-Ch 1GB | Sapphire X1600Pro 512MB PCI-e | 1xWD 80Gb & 1xWD 250Gb Sata(s) | Antec SLK3800B Case | Enermax NoiseTaker 485W || |
