Default Modding Question

Hola, I've got an IBM T23 laptop. It has Windows XP Pro installed onto it and works perfectly. For some reason, I have a great desire to mod it. Being a complete **** in modding, my first question is: Is it even possible to mod an IBM T23? Second, is it a waste of money to mod a laptop so ancient? Third, what parts should I buy to make my laptop pimp, but save a lot of money (I'm on a tight budget...really tight budget)? Fourth, are there any risks in modding a laptop?

My Computer
Dell Dimension 4300
1.6 ghz
1 X 512mb RAM (Dell Manufactured)
128 MB Novatech ATI Radeon 9550
2 X 160 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
17 in. Dell Manufactured CRT Monitor

Are you able to post a picture of it? That would make it easier to make suggestions. Off the top of my head the only mod I can think of is to paint it. That would require you to take it apart, then put it back together. IBM laptops aren't the easiest to put back together.

Agreed, modding a laptop isn't going to be an easy task. I've seen very few laptop mods, but here is one that comes to mind, maybe you can get some ideas from it...

Oh my goodness, modding a laptop is quite complicated. Ehh, I don't think I'm up to mod my laptop, knowing that it's not going to last for the next couple years. Thanks for the link.

Yes it's a little more involved then modding a desktop. Plus your limited to what you can do. Another approach is to use the laptop as part of a mod. because of their small size you can use laptop parts in mods that are cramped.

That laptop mod is pretty cool - but it looks like a lot of work, and when the machine itself becomes outdated, then it just becomes something cool to look at. Unless he removes the covering and tries to transplant it to another one later.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

That's really a risk you have to take with any laptop though, modded or not. You basically buy those things and they are outdated as soon as the next generation of hardware comes out because they are virtually un-upgradeable. So any and every laptop owner has to come to terms with the fact that what they are buying is never going to get any better through the product's lifespan; but I guess that's the price you have to pay for portability...
