| Someone recently posted a Chart of Graph of how memory is utilized in a PC. I did not save the link. Anyone know where they posted it in here? It showed the different parts of memory addressing. |

| Yeah ... excellent ... thanks! I have tried to get XP Pro to actually address 4GB of Ram and wasn't satisfied with any answers from any source nor the explanations they offered. So I was going to take another crack at it today but wanted to review the memory mapping chart. Thanks! I had stumbled across a link at one time fairly easily and someone claimed they used a combination solution and there version of XP Pro 32 Bit was showing 4GB ... well I did not save that link and simply cannot find anyone with a real solid solution. There are a lot of empty headed explanations however... The best solution I can come across is with a variation of the /3gb switch that gives back some ram to the kernel. /userva=2600 /3GB If anyone actually has a real proven researched solution to this well beyond the available links to microsoft and their lame explanations and switches and PAE switch etc ... then please offer a succinct peoveable accurate explanation with supportive material. Thx! Last edited by Tech Geek Deluxe; December 27th, 2007 at 13:41. |

| Do you know what site(s) he [occiferfriendly] was referring to that have the chart and explanations ... and if they are in relation to the 4GB issue and limits of 32 Bit XP? Last edited by Tech Geek Deluxe; December 27th, 2007 at 13:41. |

| I'm Diggin it! | You can peruse this link. It will open to a certain topic, but then you should check the directory structure off to the left side of the screen. Many topics listed there to read over. You'll come away at least understanding the limitations of 32-bit and 4Gb of ram. How you'll regain using the unaddressable space is beyond what I've read on the matter. | Thanks ... Yeah yeah ... I have read all of that and far more a number of times and tried a few solutions with some varying results. I do also understand the memory allocation issues and the reasons why the system uses and does not show all of the memory resources available. ... however even with the explanations ... I haven't seen any that actually make sense. I've been here before and found solutions that even the best Microsoft Techs had not found ... so I figured to put a bit of effort and see if anyone had actually created a registry fix along with some switches to resolve it in a better way as far as mapping or allocation. |

| Go ahead, try to get away | When I was searching for that chart on my own (ended up getting it from another guy) I ran into a site where folks were talking about getting their rigs to address more RAM. None of the things they discussed seemed understandable to me - and more to the point, none seemed that reliable either. IIRC, they were talking about PAE switches. I did not read too much further as I don't want to advocate or recommend something I don't understand fully - especially when it deals with the registry. Along with that, if I have a real need to go with more RAM I'll switch to an OS than can use it fully natively rather than have to hack to make it work - seems more reliable to me. | I'm Diggin it! | Tech, I understand what you're wanting. But you aren't going to find it IMHO. It's a kernel level issue in Windows 32-bit OS'es. I've researched it till I was blue in the screen, and even then, I don't understand all the crap I read because I'm not a programmer. Like Occifer, I've read of various ways people have tried to force Windows 32-bit into mapping more memory space, but it all came down to a software emulator overlay written by a friend of an Internet friend who won't give you any type of support for it. And BTW, that friend got bored with computers and is now hopping up Honda's for a living. Good luck. If you find anything, let us know. | I suspect your right Quake ... Having found testimony of people actually doing it ... well ... I figured everything was going 64 bit sometime and with Ram so cheap ... I upgraded all the house Motherboards and Ram. [6gigs, 6gigs, 4gigs, 4gigs, 3gigs, 3 gigs.] Two Machines are X64 XP now and doing well. My Main machine has 4 Gigs and showing 3.25 and runs beautifully. SOooo ... I figured I would just look it up again and do it as well. Not so easy and yes ... no really good solutions. I would be happy having a root level Ram Drive with .75 Gigs and dropping all temp files in it ... just to know I am utilizing every bit of ram. So I am just cleaning up some loose ends and verifying whether it is worth any more effort. |
