Buy a SB Audigy 2 ZS Notebook edition PCMCIA card... That what I did when my laptop's sound bust.

Or one of the cheaper SB products like the external Live 5.1 USB box. Or a USB stick sound card.

Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook PCMCIA Sound Card - OEM
SB Audigy 2 Notebook. Little pricey. $85.

Newegg.com - Creative External Sound Blaster Live! SB0490 Sound Card - Retail
SB Live 5.1 External USB. Not bad, $53.

Newegg.com - GWC USB 5.1 Channel Audo Adapter AA1500 Sound Card - Retail
GWC USB 5.1 sound card. Cheap, but seems good, $18. Can't beat the price.

Now isn't that cheaper than a barebone laptop?

The Altec Lansing FX5051 has a built in 5.1 sound card, that might be a good option for you if you want decent sound but don't want to splurge for a new lappy

Nice find sir! It actually looks like a nice system. But if you bought that nice sound card, you wouldn't need a system like this. On top of that, you're paying a lot for a pretty weak and feature-less system. A Z-5500 set runs about the same, which is 500W of bass-pumping power, has digital outputs, and has decoders built-in, something this $250 system lacks.

I wouldn't pay hands down for it. I'd rather have a $50 sound card and a kickass system with everything included rather than pay $250 for a system boasting nothing but a USB connection.

^ Man, that sounded like something I'd read in a review. I should totally review speakers.
