| Hey, just wanted to thank everyone for being so helpful as I build my new PC. Couldn't have done it without the answers to specific questions I had. Its very much still a work in progress, as I deal with some minor issues(see RAM thread that's going as I write this) but the fact that I got this thing up and running is awesome. I saved quite a bit of money, and got the satisfaction of knowing I put it all together, and it was quite a bit of fun(except for the too hot CPU, which scared me) Anyways, thanks again, I'll definitely hang around here and try and keep up with the technical side of things. And if anyone wants to recommend an aftermarket heatsink while they are reading this, feel free to, just don't want to clog up the boards with any more of my threads. I was looking at this one or this one dual core E6600 Geforce 8800GTS Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard OCZ Gamextreme 600w PSU OCZ Platinum DDR2 800 2Gigs 250 Gig 7200 RPM WD Harddrive OCZ GameXStream 600w |

| Colonel Calamity | The 9700 seems like a good cooler but be sure to read the review they just did on it here the other day. The second one seems to be not as good, it is just a square heatsink with a larger round fan on top. The reviews around other sites gives that one less than spectacular reviews. I myself am using the Scythe Ninja which is a pain to install and is huge but once installed it does very well. My E6600 idle sits around 30-35º and under 100% load rarely goes much above 53ºC. Right now folding on both cores it is sitting at 50ºC according to TAT (which always seems about 3-5º higher than all the other programs). I would suggest a Scythe Ninja, Scythe Mine or the CNPS9500 ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| I'm Diggin it! | The CNPS9500 is a very capable cooler. There will be many other opinions on this subject though. The CNPS9700 is huge and performas only a tad better than the 9500. Also, the 9700 doesn't fit into a lot of mid-tower cases. What case do you have? | I have a pretty big case I got when I ordered from IBUYPOWER about 4 years ago. It looks like I have a bunch of room between the side and the motherboard. I also don't have any vents in the back, just two fans on the side, if that makes a difference on which one to get. dual core E6600 Geforce 8800GTS Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard OCZ Gamextreme 600w PSU OCZ Platinum DDR2 800 2Gigs 250 Gig 7200 RPM WD Harddrive OCZ GameXStream 600w |

| Modder-ator | That Thermaltake CL-P0092 is pretty small and really isn't worth $30. If you have to get one of those two, it would definately be the Zalman CNPS9700, but there are better coolers out there for less money. I have the Zalman CNPS9500-AM2 and it is an average to decent cooler at a fairly average noise level (noticeable fan motor noise). All the ones Screwballl listed are great options, but I would to add the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, Thermalright Ultra 120, and Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro to the list as well ![]() Last edited by gvblake22; March 15th, 2007 at 15:38. |
