Default Hardware Check

Thanks in advance for anyone who decides to help me on this. I'm about to order the following parts for a computer:
- Intel Q6700 CPU
- EVGA nForce 780i Mobo
- EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS GPU
- X-Fi XtremeGamer Soundcard
- Corsair Dominator 2x 2Gb RAM

I'm building this primarily for gaming. It would help a lot if anybody could just make sure all these components will function properly together. Again, thanks for your help.

Is this the G92 version of the 8800GTS?

The Q9300 or Q9450 are both a way better value than the Q6700. Cheaper, more efficient, and should be a little faster.

And I'd recommend an Auzentech or M-Audio card over an X-fi. I have an x-fi and it's not bad, but there are better options from other vendors, and recently Creative has really treated their customers poorly, details.

Skip the nVidia mobo and get a P35 or X38 mobo. There have been a slew of problems reported with the nVidia boards, from less-that-satisfactory OCing to bad drivers. Apparently the 790i is a viable chipset though, if you want to shell out for DDR3.

Yeah its the G92
Ok, and you're sure the Q9300 is supported by a 780i board? If you can't already tell, I'm a **** at this. I don't know what to check besides the socket type...

Yes, the 45nm quad cores are supported by the 780i chipset with the latest BIOS available from the board manufacturer.
As for the Q9300 vs the Q6700, I doubt it will be faster out of the box except for SS4 enabled applications (so far only video encoding has SSE4 instructions support)
The Q9450 is better, if you're able to get one. It's cheaper too.

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

780i is alright, it fixes a ton of problems that persisted in the 680i even after multiple BIOS updates. Its more like a 680i 2.0 with Yorkfield support, the true update is the 790i.

Ok, thanks for all your help. Revised components list:
- Intel Q9450 CPU
- EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS GPU
- DFI X48 Mobo
- AuzenTech X-Fi Prelude Soundcard
- corsair dominator RAM

Should that work?
And how long do you think the q9450 will take to get in stock somewhere?

what's your budget? and i'm assuming you already have your case, power supply, keyboard/mouse, fans, and monitor. if you do, can you let us know what they are? do you plan on overclocking?

no problem. I have an antec p190 case, which already has a very large power supply (1200W). the keyboard and mouse I currently have are extremely basic; they have no extra macro keys/buttons or anything like that. The monitor is an old CRT and I think the resolution is around 1900x1200, but I will soon be upgrading to an LCD, probably 22" but maybe 24". I have to keep everything under $2000.
