Default Harddrive Shopping

i was thinking of buying this but i'm concerned of the bad reviews and losing my data again...
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda ES ST3500630NS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

i also thought of this huge monster but i'm on a tight budget...
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda ES ST3750640NS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (Perpendicular recording) ST3750640AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

so i finally thought why not this one: its cheap relatively large for my use...
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD4000AAKS 400GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

i got a maxtor200gb sata3gb, and its already filled with porn joke, mostly pictures and videos from my wedding and my anime collection backup.... and my 120gb seagate sata 3gb is my system hdd... so its time to add more...

any opinion is welcome, and i already taken a look at the recommendation page...

I've had great success with the Western Digital drives.
Some of them have been running in my computers
for well over 5 years and nary a hiccup at all.

Have some fairly new ones that I've had no problems with as well.

Not sure what you are talking about, but I don't see many bad reviews on that 500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 drive. :dontknow:
I have two 320GB 7200.10 drives and both work flawlessly. I've owned a total of about 5 Seagate HDD's since 2003 and none have failed (that I know of). I've also had two 74GB Western Digital Raptor drives and one of those did fail. So from my experiences, I'm in love with the Seagate Barracuda drives. Particularly the 16MB cache 7200.10 dries as they have the best performance. That Western Digital drive looks decent though. The only drawback compared to the Seagate you linked to is the smaller capacity (400GB compared to 500GB) and a shorter warranty (3 years instead of 5).

Also, the regular (non "ES") 500GB 7200.10 drive is only $120.

Currently, 320GB and 500GB HDDs have the highest GB/$ ratio. Getting a 400GB or 750GB isn't all that good unless you have some extra money. Or if you don't have a lot of bays but need a lot of storage.

That's 0.03% of the reviewers (much less than 1%) who got a bad drive, I'd say your odds are pretty good.

Newegg.com - SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
I like these drives. I have not had one fail on me yet.(knock on wood) I have 1 250gb, 2 320gb, 2 500gb all of this same series. They are very quiet the only way I know they are working is the light on the computer flashing. No complaints here.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

there are new seagate drives that are out. They only come in 250gb versions, i think seagate may be designing the 500gb version as we speak. This special 7200.10 drive is extra fast compared to the first gen ones. I believe the code is 410. Usually, i think they are 630 or 620.

EDIT: "ST3250410AS" 50% more STR. Don't end up buying the old ones, these are way better. =)
