| as long as its the same socket CPU as before, there should be no problem with just putting in a new CPU |

| Modder-ator | Sounds like it broke off the processor, making it a socket 478 processor? On that old of socket, your easiest option to get back up and running is to just buy a new processor. If you are a little more daring, you could try the processor in the motherboard anyway and see if the computer still works (it's possible). If you didn't want to buy another Pentium 4 processor of some kind, you would need to buy a whole new motherboard/processor (and probably RAM and video card). |

| i thought only AMD CPU have pins??? probably your talking about the Mobo... if i where you save some dough and buy new set of hardware, be daring like blake said... and also to save a lil salvage parts from the old rig... like RAM, HDD, DVDDrive, PSU only if your PSU can support the new rig... you can buy a nice new rig in a couple of hunderds... give it a try... tell me a budget and we can make a mock up shopping list... If the pin broke off in the socket, I think you pretty much out of luck. Do you have a picture of which pin broke off the CPU, if its a ground pin, the CPU with luck would still be usable Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 | |

| HL's Technomancer | Hmm, thinking about it, couldn't you take a ball of Silly Putty and press it against the socket to remove the pin? I've never had a problem with broken pins, so I don't know how that'd work. ![]() |
