Default DVI Problems

I've been using the DVI-to-analog converter thus far and I've decided to finally try and figure out why my DVI is not working. I have a Sceptre 22'' LCD X-Gamer monitor. I can not for the life of me get the DVI working on my EVGA 8800 GTS 640 mb vid card. Any ideas?

Is the image extremely blurry and distorted?

Try doing this:
1. NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Manage custom timings.
2. Click both "Treat as HDTV" and "Allow modes not exposed by the display"
3. Click [Create...]
4. Under Custom display mode values:
Horizontal desktop pixels: 1440
Vertical desktop lines: 900
GDI Refresh rate: 60
Bits per pixel: 32
(don't have "Interlaced" checked)
5. Click [Advanced >>] (by the way this is where I didn't go when NVIDIA emailed me)
6. Under "Back-end parameters":
Timing standard: DMT
Desired refresh rate: 60
(the rest of the fields are grayed out)
7. Under "Front-end paramers"
Scaling type: Display (none)
8. Click [Test]
9. Click [OK]

I had the same problem.

No.. It wasn't showing anything.. just said no signal. And I don't have those options. I don't see "manage custom timings" in the nvidia control panel.

*EDIT* I should mention that I'm using Vista Ultimate

Although I did notice that sometimes when I tried to start up the computer with DVI, there would be random colored pixel's during the POST and then when windows would try to start, it would lose signal.

Looks like a faulty cable to me. That's the first place to start. If not the cable, then either of the connecting ends (meaning the DVI port on the monitor, or the one on the video card). Looks to me like it's a cable issue. Try a DVI cable other than the one you've got there - that's the first step.

I know this sounds pretty generic, but try both DVI ports on the card, and make sure your drivers are up-to-date. I've heard of people have problems where there would be no image with DVI UNTIL windows loaded up, not the other away around though :-\

No, it's true about trying both ports. One is usually set to the main monitor, and the other as secondary. If you have it plugged into the secondary monitor port, nothing is configured for that, so it reads nothing.

Ok so I figured out that it was not my DVI cable. I went out to Best Buy and bought a new one. At the moment I have a VGA and DVI cable plugged into my ld comp that is using an AMD Athlon XP 2000+ and a Nvidia Gefroce FX 5600. I can not get it to use the DVI as the primary device, but the DVI works just fine if I set it to use the VGA and DVI as 1 large horizontal desktop. I'm highly confused that the DVi would work for that but would not work by itself... Any suggestions?

Try this, if you haven't already, with it working with one huge horizontal desktop, set the DVI one to as primary monitor, click the VGA,disable it, then try.

Yea I can't get DVI to work on my Vista... My monitor does have an HDMI port though. I'm thinking about buying an HDMI/DVI cable. Think it's a good idea? On a side note.. I tried a dvi -> hdmi converter.. but my monitor does not have enough room for me to use the converter... when attempting to connect the DVI cable, the stand that the monitor is on gets in the way.
