Post DVDs will NOT play in disc drive

Once again, I have had to result to Google and this place for final answers.

Problem: I put in the DVD in the DVD slot on my computer, (Drive F:), and it refuses to play. I've even downloaded PowerDVD so it WOULD play. Still, not playing.

I opened up the My Computer icon, clicked on Drive F:, still, no play.

I even tried clicking on Drive E:

Low and behold....
Nothing.

Any suggestions?

Movie, Yes.

Errors, No.

I put it in, it spins, I see the DVD/CD icon spinning next to my mouse, and when it stops. Nothing. I can still open Drive F: without it saying "Please insert a disk to Drive F:"

But, no icons or anything.

I also opened WMP and tried to get it to work from there, but, nothing.

Check in PowerDVD, and make sure that your F drive is the default drive, and to auto play when a movie is inserted.........That is if you haven't already done that.

If all of that is set, and still nothing, attempt once to play it from Windows Media Player, if you still get nothing, then I would assume that the DVD drive itself is bad. I have had several drives go bad with similar symptoms.

This might be completely stupid, but is it an American DVD? I had an international disc once that wouldn't play, and later found out it's not supposed to. Thought my player was busted as well. Does it play other discs?

Yes here in the US we use NTSC, while in Europe and Asia they use PAL. That part only affects using a standard DVD player. A DVD drive should be able to play either, the issue with DVD drives is region coding, you just have to have the right software to break it. I use DVD Region Free
