Default decrease boot time?

I was wondering how I could make the boot time on my PC a little quicker. One thing I hate is to press F1 to continue during the boot... anyone have options?

Try making the HDD the first boot device. You can set it in the BIOS. That's all I can think of right now...

Yes it will work. Be careful when disabling sevices, you don't want to disable something you need.
Another good thing is to clean what you have on your desktop. If you have a lot of files and folder with a lot of files in them it will slow down considerably your computer. You can move them to your documents and the problem will disappear.
If you have a lot of fonts in your C:\Windows\Fonts folder (let's say you use photoshop or such and you put your fonts there) removing the useless ones will shorten your boot time.

Nice me too... that thread will give you TONS of tips. But just be careful because some of them you might not want to do.

Ok ... make sure the "windows start" sound is set to none.
Right Click "my computer" select properties, select advanced, select startup and recovery, reduce or eliminate "time to display list of operating systems.
I set mine to 0

Be careful regarding tweaks. I have been tweaking and hacking for 20 years ... some work with some OS ... some don't with XP and do with 2K ... here is a solid basic site that is conservative. Optimixe XP Optimize XP

The settings for I/O do actually work [they say they don't] For large file transfers ... which I do a lot of ... settings of over 512K to say perhaps 16Megs work better ....

Must download and use TweakUI
Must download and use XP antispy
A few programs from CRC also help
Trimming back your services help
Use a startup manager such as codestuff starter Starter download and review - manage your startup programs from SnapFiles

Or ... JV-16 which is a great suite of tweaks.

This is a solid starting point ... especially the "Optimize XP" site ... they have most of the "real" tweaks that help performance.

I get 20-25% overall performance increase on my PC's due to setting them up right.
That with another 20-25% overclock and additional hardware choices that provide peak performance ... well I typically have a screaming system.
