Default Connections

Hi

I need some advice. I have a COOLER MASTER GeminII with two fans and a EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI motherboard. Is splicing the two fans together to make the motherboard connection a good idea?

Also when I ordered the fan I made a mistake and got only one. Long story short I ordered again and now have one Arctic 12L (1000 RPM) and one Artic 12 (1500 RPM) is that a problem?

Thanks

No it's not a problem to splice them together even if they are different fans. Be careful when doing this with more powerful fans as it's possible you can overload the motherboard fan header.

+1.

I have a GeminII also, and I just plug them (the fans on the GeminII) in via Molex connector and it works out fine.

First thanks for your help.
This is not the first computer I have built but it has been a while. The last one was a 486 and a lot has changed. It is a case of knowing less than I used to.
If you were me would you stick with the missmatched fans or get a matched pair of Artic 12L? The 12's move more air but with more noise. I have an Armor case and it seems there should be no problem with heat considering it has five fans.

I would just keep em unless they are giving you poor results.

There's so many fan headers on a 680SLI mobo, I think 6, that you should have no problems hooking each one to it's own header.

Two different fans on the GeminII shouldn't be a problem. I know of a few cases where some people had a larger 38mm thick fan over the CPU and a skinneir fan over the memory to save weight.

They're still pretty low-power fans, so all should be fine. I wouldn't be connecting any very high-speed 120x38mm fans to a 3pin header on the motherboard though.

On a side, somewhat related note, how do you like the full speed Arctic Cooling Arctic Fan 12 eyemars? I'm thinking about getting four or five for my new case and am looking for something less than $10 that is pretty quiet to start off with, but can be toned down via fan controller to virtually silent and the Arctic Fan 12 seemed to fit the bill.

Oh yeah,
Welcome to HardwareLogic!!! :wavey:
