Default Buyers Guide

I picked up the Special Issue Winter Pc Hardware Buyers Guide that was put out by MPC. For some reason even though I have a subscription, I never get the specials. So I got it at the newstand.

It lists the usual suspects in a "Massive" (LOL) 27-page review that shows you how to ""pick all the fastest parts"".

Now maybe I'm jaded and look for problems where I shouldn't, but on the cover, they have pictures of the leaders in all their categories for monitors....hard drives.....motherboards.......cpu's.....etc.

WTF!! The picture they have for the cpu is an Intel Confidential engineering sample. Now I understand it is only a picture. But does anyone else think it was stupid to have that picture next to "how to get the fastest parts" ?

It just caught my eye right away and I shook my head and said, how stupid is that.

I wouldn't say "stupid" but that isn't the best either.
Putting an ES on a cover is kind of whack if you ask me. :P

Special issues are newsstand only, and I'm not sure how many are put out each year. The subscription includes regularly monthly issues, plus a Holiday issue that falls in between November and December.

I should re-order MPC. My sub ran out in August...

And what's the point of the special editions anyways? They really don't seem to have more content than the regular issues.

I'm sorry, my point really didn't have anything to do with me not getting the specials. I should have worded the post more carefully.

Lol, you shouldn't have put that first. I basically read that and posted accordingly.

My sub ends in March... I need to renew.

I think everyone got it, its just so easy to derail subjects with polobunny around. You know how those Canucks are.

I don't think its a bad idea putting an ES on the cover really. Let's look at it from the corp. side:

Interesting things on a cover = more sales = MORE MONEYZ!

They don't care about the looks of the cover, so long as it sells. And obviously its working, you bought it!

I knew that, but wanted to clarify, especially if anyone else reading had the same question.

Didn't comment on the rest of the post because I haven't seen/read the issue, and don't really have an opinion on it either way.

Well, even the MPC dude doesn't get it. You don't get free issues?

And I love the user title Paul!
