Question Build Recommendations

what is the best motherboard now as to future upgrade on cpu and memories and others and most importantly money wise. I have bought many computer that are sold at store. i sometime feel i need to have my own computer that are built by me and install what i really want on it.
any suggestion or few website that will give me the direction to the best computer world. I only need for personal use at home, not for any games or buss, but i prefer the best and fast computer around.
I would prefer a top of the line motherboard and cup and memory for under $2500.00
thanks

Thats your first step to becoming an enthusiast, and one of most sastifying feelings is having the rig you built yourself fire up to life.

For that much quid, a computer would either be set up as a server or gaming rig. For basic web browsing and daily life you can build a great system for under 500, and a general system that handles everything you want quite well for around 1200. Definitely start with the link Yellow gave you to the recommendation list, those are what we consider the best bang for the buck. Read over the list, check out the hardware, maybe look at a review or two for them and then start from there.

i only based everything on your Budget of $2500...
but like everyone here will tell you a $1500 budget is enough for a kickass rig with nice lcd, and worthy for fragfest nights, video production, pleasure and work...

Aye, that was my budget, and all together the rig in my system has cost me about 1200 so far WITH having to buy a new PSU and Mobo to replace the originals that fried out. That leaves me some change to get a faster processor now that they're cheaper, another HDD and a good LCD. And Oblivion has never looked so good. Having the best of the best won't do a damn at making Firefox open faster then a quality $700 system. Buy according to your needs, and you can always ask us for the current best for buck in relation to what you want.

To give you an idea....the computer I have now that you can see in my signature cost about 1500 before the warranties. You can even substitute the e6600 with the quad 6600 now (which I would do if I was you) and it would still be around 1500. I even overclocked the cpu to run faster than the more expensive processors.
The 1500 is not counting the monitor though.

If you want to save a little money it's generally best to buy a lower clocked cpu then bump it up a little if you want.

Like you...I don't game. Just video and picture editing and dvd encoding/burning. Ball park estimate is....I can encode a 2 hour movie onto my harddrive in about 6-7 minutes. Non encrypted movies take even less time. Unless your gaming I guess...it's kinda a waste of money to buy the best of the best on everything. To me, the time difference just doesn't justify the extra cost.

While in extreme conditions a water cooling system might be great and they do work well I personally NEVER suggest them. Except in extreme heat conditions air cooling is sufficient and does not half the hassles or risk.
