Default Battery Backup

A long time ago I had a battery backup (UPS) that has since died. It was an APC. All I've ever known about UPS'es were APC. Anyone have any other recommendations or is APC still "king" for backup power?

APC has my vote and always will. You really need to sit down and look long and hard at your requirments. Power requirments in general and what will it support. Figure if you have maybe $1,000 to $1,500 or more in a system the UPS is not a good place to get conservative.

I'm working on a UPS review right now

Newegg.com - CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS

Excellent product, very heavy, dead silent, easy to read and understand display that tells you a bunch of great information.

Are you sure the APC UPS actually died, or the battery just decided to give up? A dead battery can be fixed pretty easily, even a deep cycle marine battery or car batteries can work, depending on what voltage the UPS uses.

Hmm, I think that's actually one or similar to one that my buddy just got a few months back. I thought the LCD display was pretty sweet looking. He has had no complaints about his.

I'm pretty sure it's just the battery that died, but to be honest, I just spent around $3700 on a brand new system build, I'd like to keep it safe. I figured it's now a perfect time to beef things up a bit.

I just replaced my UPS device that I lost in the tornado. I got an APC BK500. One of the guys from work had one he was trying to get rid of before he goes to Korea. I was like dude, you need it in Korea more than here in the states! He said he'd buy a new one there since he didn't want to have it shipped over. $50 for a $100 UPS device. Sweet!

cool. That cyberpower unit looks real spiffy! I like the control panel too.

Now that I think about it... I don't even have a UPS :( I have a big powerbar but I don't think it does anything. The power here in Vancouver is pretty good anyway. I don't know anyone who uses a UPS. We don't have thunderstorms or brown/black outs either.

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220
