| Hey, I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with tablet pc's, and how you felt about them. I currently use a gateway e-295c that my school gives (read: makes you pay 400 bucks a semester for....) to students... spec: Intel C2D T7500 @ 2.2ghz 2 gigs of ram ati mobility 2300 80 gig hitachi hard drive, which I believe runs at 7200 rpm from what I've been able to find on it Optiarc Dvd burner 12 cell Battery Well, this is pretty heavy for a tablet, largely due to the giant battery, but the battery life is great, I can get 4+ hours of use out of it, just surfing the net and taking notes, with no problem at all (perfect for taking to school, enough charge to get through all your classes). The install of xp that the school uses is pretty bloated though... and just buggy in general, I was having tons of trouble with it until I reformatted it and installed vista32 on it, which works great on a tablet (the tablet features are just more refined than xp, from what I can tell). Also, I had ubuntu 7.10 on there for a little while, but the lack of screen rotation (which doesnt work with ati drivers... grrr...) and handwriting recognition made it impractical for use on a tablet. It runs pretty well since I installed vista, everything is nice and snappy on it.... but the computer itself just doesn't seem to be good. I have a small hairline crack by one of the latches on the case, and several other parts of it are just loose feeling, not to mention all the little rubber spacers and pads are falling out one by one. As a result, I'm hoping to opt out of this program eventually, and get my own tablet, lol. One that won't fall apart on me. ![]() Anyone else here use or like tablets? e6300@3.33ghz|Asus P5k-e WiFi| 4gb OCZ ReaperX|2x 3870's|1.3tb storage space|MSI tv tuner. | ||||||||||||||

| i've heard good things about the HP TX tablet line, but i think its only offered with AMD processors if that matters to you. HP every month has one of those 500 dollars off 1300 purchase, you may wanna jump on one. One of my old schoolmates swears by tablet PCs, i dunno the screen's too small for what i'd like as an all purpose notebook, but then again when i was in school i only had 1 computer so i went for the powerhouse notebooks =D | ||||||||||||||
