Default AMD shares rise 5% over buyout rumor

You can check out the story here. Since I'm severely limited in my connection speed (temporarily on dial-up) I'm not going to do the usual Internet scrub for more news about this. Would one of you please check into it?

From what I have researched, it's mostly postulation and rumors. Private equity buyouts? This means that no one will ever really know who the players are if and when it does happen. One thing to note:

"I think essentially the rumors are borne of AMD's weak balance sheet," [JoAnne Feeney] said. "When they acquired ATI, they had to borrow quite a lot to finance that purchase and that's created a higher debt-to-capital ratio than they had in the past. It's still in that squeeze."

Biggest mistake AMD could make in my opinion. However, they reported a $574 million dollar loss this past January... I have no doubt that if AMD is going to fold, it will be because of aquiring ATi.

Its been falling since October. I'd hate to see something happen to AMD, but since the ATi takeover, it shot up but then collapsed...

Intel swoops in and buys AMD (nooooooooooooo).

That would greatly suck but I can't imagine that would ever happen.

Are they sure it hasn't something to do with the fact that AMD announced a 42% Integer and FPU lead over the Xeon X5355 with the K10/Quad Core architecture ?

well, whatever happens, i REALLY hope AMD doesn't fail, to have ONE company in the market means rediculous prices etc. It would also slow down the speed of technology.
Not to mention the evaporation of ATi to keep pushing the graphics industry forward as well.
*sigh*
well whatever happens, i hope it's good = /

That could potentially be dangerous for the economy. If AMD was not around to force competition in the CPU market, Intel would hold a monopoly, where they're forced neither to sell at decent prices nor produce quality goods.

And the free market says that when one company makes huge profits, resources of other companies are shifted into the market where the economic profits are at, so Intel would not be alone for long.

Lead Head: Why bring up K10(I never even heard of such a thing), K8L is not even on the market yet.
