| T-Rex | I'd advise you to pick a different video card EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card And different monitor, a better brand in my opinion Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor with HDCP support 300 cd/m2 700:1 Rest looks interesting, though for 20$ you can get a E6750, which is a pretty cheap upgrade. Even if you plan on overclocking, at 20$ it's too good to pass by. Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor |

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100212SR Radeon HD 2900PRO 512MB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail Which outperforms the 8800GTS 320mb and is just a cheaper, underclocked 2900XT

Not only that, the power to performance cost simply sucks ass. Finally, the HD2900XT doesn't have driver support for hardware HD Video Decoding. But it does have VIVO analog, which the Nvidia's don't. Is it a bad card? No. Are there better ones out there? Certainly. I personally would rather buy a DX9 card that's proven to work in all aspects of it's intended target group than one with a few festering sores that may or may not perform well in DX10 games. | Well, with a driver update, the 290PRO could be a very nice card in DX10 games. Given, currently it's not so hot, but it could be... all about the potential... well, not really. Also, like Quakin' said, the power/performance ratio is WAY out of whack. I read that a single 2900PRO/XT uses as much power as a single 8800Ultra... You didn't list what PSU you are going to get, but be sure if you get the 2900PRO/XT, get a 700W+ PSU at least. Also, when you get a psu make sure the discribed wattage is its continuous output not its peak load.

| Is a Penguin building a Windows or a Linux system? If Linux, all the more reason to stay away from ATI graphics and stick with NVidia. (Not a bad idea when looking at motherboards either.) Still no support for the X1950 series though, so if he's running Linux with the X1950XTX he postd in his first post, no luck. ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 + Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL + Thermalright HR-05 IFX 2GB G.Skill 800MHz F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Silverstone Decathlon 650W Western Digital 250GB SATA II | |
