Default 128 Bit Interface

Why is it that all of the lower end 8 Series Geforce cards have a 128 bit interface? Doesn't that slow things down compared to 256 Bit? I know when i first purchased a good graphics card i made sure to get a 256 bit, but then i got a 7600GT and that was only 128 bit, but with the new DX10 cards which claim to be so much faster it is kinda funky to see that lower interface

those are most definitely the LOW END of DX10...

just like you see the x1600, or x500, or 7600, or the 6600s, there are always lower end models of cards...thats a lower end model. its cheappp to make, and cheap to sell.

yea but thats on like 8600s and 8500s, i kinda expected that Nvidia would step up to the whole 256 bit scheme, ya know with their whole320 bit and whatever else they have

i completely agree and am not saying im not disappointed, merely spectating as to what would have cause nVidia to do that, and that's all i can infer.

GTX = 384-bit, GTS = 320-bit, everything else = 256-bit -- its logical.

...logical...

OH THAT MUST BE WHY A COMPUTER HARDWARE MANUFACTURER DIDN'T DO IT!

:P

I am honestly disapointed. Built a comp today with a 8600GT brand XFX.
This card.... well it sucks put simply. Not at all the best bang for the buck like the 7600GT/GS were in the GeForce 7 series.
What is even more attrocious would be the 8600GTS. This card would really benefit from a 256bit memory bus.

Oh and what about the 8800 Ultra guys? This thing is laughable. It's like Nvidia just churned it out because they felt like it, not really a huge improvement over the 8800 GTX. Anyway, still better than ATI, at least Nvidia released a DX10 capable card...

If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you?

yea 800 bucks for a overclocked GTX!? Thats absurd, watercooled ones are cheaper and certain other brands are just plain better. And seriously who needs that extra like 3-4 frames especially considering the cost to fps ratio

I think when DX10 games actually do hit the shelves nVidia will probably release the 9 series. Right now they are just using DX10 has a market gimmick. DX10 isn't helping anyone.

I would be inclined to agree on it being a marketing gimmick.
You'd be surprised at how many people buy stuff because of a key word in the advertisement like "Ultra", "Super", "Extreme", and the like.

I'll wait until the 9xxx series comes out, then pick up a 8800GTX for cheap. And that will be just
plain old "Super".

Here is the catch 22 on DX10, first of all no games even support it right now. Then to even run DX10 you have to be running Vista. Right now nVidia is the only one who has a DX10 card available, but their drivers for vista aren't quite ready yet, so gaming in vista is crippled.

While the 8800 series are good cards, we shouldn't get caught up in the whole DX10 hype just yet.
